Why Star Wars Eclipse May Be Far More Important as a Canon Game Than SW Outlaws

One crucial feature in the anticipated Star Wars Eclipse could prove to make the game far more important for Star Wars' canon than Star Wars Outlaws.

Tuesday, June 4 will see the release of The Acolyte on Disney+, as well as Star Wars: Hunters on iOS, Android, and the Nintendo Switch. Having two new Star Wars releases on the same day should ensure that June 4 is a big day for fans of the franchise.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Premieres on June 4

The Acolyte is the next live-action Star Wars TV series, following in the footsteps of shows like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Andor. There is a great deal of hype surrounding The Acolyte for a couple of different reasons. For one, the show is set during the High Republic era, a time that hasn't really been explored all that much in live-action Star Wars media.

Secondly, the show is set to give Star Wars fans a new perspective on the Sith that should make them more fleshed out than the way they've been depicted so far. The Acolyte will further stand out thanks to it blending classic Star Wars sci-fi and fantasy action with the "mystery-thriller" genre, as according to the official synopsis, a "former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes."

If you want to pull the thread and change everything, then pull it.

The Acolyte's first two episodes will premiere on the Disney+ streaming platform on Tuesday, June 4. Eight episodes of The Acolyte will air in total before the show wraps up its first season run on July 16.

Star Wars: Hunters Launches on June 4

The premiere of The Acolyte is reason enough for Star Wars fans to be excited about June 4, but there's another reason they will want to mark their calendars. June 4 is also the day that Star Wars: Hunters launches worldwide, with the free-to-play PvP multiplayer game set to release for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Drawing comparisons to hero shooter games, Star Wars: Hunters features a unique cast of characters for players to choose from in any given match.

Whereas The Acolyte is set at the end of the franchise's High Republic era, Star Wars: Hunters is set during a more familiar point in the timeline, right after the fall of the Galactic Empire in Return of the Jedi. The game has been developed by Zynga and NaturalMotion, and with Zynga's past success in the mobile space, it could very well turn out to be a big hit when it launches on June 4.
