Star Trek veteran Patrick Stewart expressed interest in bidding a grand cinematic farewell to his iconic character, Jean-Luc Picard, through a Picard movie. The legendary actor went on to hype the fan base by coming forward with an enthusiastic answer to the prospect of Picard's last appearance in a final Star Trek: The Next Generation movie.

Initially intended as Stewart's farewell to the Star Trek universe, Picard season 3 saw the return of the beloved Star Trek: The Next Generation cast as they uncovered a conspiracy within the Starfleet while facing off against their long-time nemesis, Borg. The thrilling season ended with an intense showdown, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. As soon as the season concluded, fans wondered if they would ever get a chance to see a Picard movie on the big screen. However, Stewart's recent answer to the query has given fans hope that they might see The Next Generation crew return for another exciting adventure.

While speaking in an interview with IndieWire, the 82-year-old actor opened up about how his character can continue his journey after the finale season and made a clear statement on the final Star Trek: The Next Generation movie. Stewart said, “I think we could do a movie, a ‘Picard’-based movie. Now not necessarily at all about Picard but about all of us. And to take many of those wonderful elements, particularly from Season 3 of ‘Picard’ and take out of that what I think could be an extraordinary movie." The actor casually noticed that he keeps “mentioning” the film to everyone despite receiving no eager responses. He added, “I keep telling people and mentioning it, and so far there’s been no eager response, but it might well happen. And that would be, I think, a very appropriate way to say, ‘And goodbye folks.'"

Star Trek: Picard has been one of the most acclaimed TV shows in recent years and has been nominated for several Primetime Emmys. Most importantly, it has consistently ranked among the Top 10 Nielsen ratings for streaming. There is certainly a chance that fans would be excited about a film that takes the story of Picard and his crew forward. It’s unlikely that viewers would see The Next Generation crew on the big screen despite the massive success of Picard Season 3. However, Paramount may decide on releasing the movie on its streaming platform, Paramount Plus. It depends on how successful the upcoming movie Star Trek: Section 31 will be for the streamer.

This is not the first time Stewart has given such an enthusiastic reply to movie rumors surrounding a movie on his iconic character. During last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the actor noted that a Picard movie would be an “interesting” adventure. However, the makers must be careful with the Star Trek franchise because fans can be particular about how their favorite series is handled.

Star Trek: Picard is streaming now on Paramount Plus.
