How to Unlock Fishing in Star Ocean The Second Story R
Unlocking Fishing is pretty easy in Square Enix's Star Ocean The Second Story R; players just need to get to the city of Krosse, which is a very early location in the game. Next, they will need to sign up for an audience with the King and then speak to him. After that, when heading into the square, chat with Celine, who will ask to join Rena and Claude on their journey. This will unlock the ability to upgrade IC and Specialty Skills; players will need one level in both Biology and Item Knowledge to unlock Fishing. Then, they need to turn fishing on in the IC/Specialty menu.

How to Fish in Star Ocean The Second Story R
Now that fishing is unlocked in this Star Ocean 2 remake, players will automatically get a fishing rod. Bait is not needed in order to fish; it is only used to make fishing easier. Next, find a location where there are some fish (basically, any water that the main character can walk up to will have fish available in it).
Look for the shadows of fish swimming in the water. A fishing rod logo will appear over the avatar's head. Press the interact button to start the fishing mini-game. Rena or Claude will throw the hook into the water, then three dots will appear over their head. Wait until those three dots turn into exclamation marks, then press and hold the interact button to pull in the fish.
- The size of the fish's shadow in the water will determine the size of the fish.
- When walking up to fishable waters, a menu with the types of fish found in that water will appear on the left side of the screen, along with fishing controls.
- When a rare fish is going to bite in this mainline Star Ocean game, the screen will darken as Rena or Claude casts a line.
Fishing for Reel in The Second Story R
There is an NPC in the village of Expel named Reel who is well worth going out of the way to interact with. This NPC is all about fishing, and they will ask players to help them catch all the fish in the world. They will exchange unique items for fish and will give rewards based on the total number of species of fish brought to them.
Players should make sure to head back to Expel on a regular basis after fishing to pick up all the rewards. It's a great idea to head far to the east, past Marze, to the edge of the water before heading up to Kurik to sail off the continent. Players will most likely have to take on a lot of JRPG battles to get there, but it's worth it.
