Square Enix seemingly loves to tease content for its cult-classic game, The World Ends With You. This time, fans are speculating that a countdown timer posted to Twitter has something to do with a sequel game.

Not long ago, Square Enix teased content for The World Ends With You, an urban fantasy title inspired by the gameplay of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. After the game became a hit among many Nintendo fans, a manga was released based on the game. That teaser Square Enix tweeted earlier this year turned out to be an anime adaptation for a World Ends With You series, set to premiere in 2021.

This time, Square Enix has created a webpage with a countdown timer, saying "Timelimit within 7 days," referencing the way time works in TWEWY. The Twitter account that posted this tease has the logo for the Japanese game, and the website is playing a remix of an original soundtrack song as it counts down. The timer looks to end on November 23.

This teaser for something related to The World Ends With You is similar to the way Solo Remix was teased. However, many fans who were around for this release are trying not to get their hopes up. Similarly, Solo Remix published a mysterious week-long countdown timer to create hype. Each day featured a different remix of an original soundtrack song.

While some fans are worried this may just be Square Enix's effort to tease another port to more consoles, others are hoping this means a sequel for The World Ends With You could be on its way. Some fans figure that because a Switch port and versions for mobile devices have already been released, and Square Enix has also confirmed the release of a TWEWY anime adaption in 2021, a sequel could be one of the few major announcements remaining.

Additionally, earlier this year a credible Super Smash Bros. Ultimate insider known as Tansut hinted at information regarding a The World Ends With You sequel. However, the leak became convoluted with the prospect that a character from the game's universe could be joining the Ultimate roster.

Whatever this new content maybe, if it follows the same trend as The World Ends With You: Solo Remix, players can expect that whatever is getting unveiled in six days' time may immediately release when the countdown timer ends.

The World Ends With You is available now for DS, Mobile, and Switch.
