A notable leaker has claimed that Team Asano, developer of hit Square Enix JRPGs like Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler, is working on a sequel to one of its titles. Team Asano, led by producer Tomoya Asano, is part of Square Enix's Creative Business Unit II, with the team responsible for a number of JRPGs. Fans may know the team best as the developers of Square Enix's 2D-HD games, the most notable of these games being the Octopath Traveler series and Triangle Strategy. Before this team was formed, the series that arguably helped kickstart the team's success could be traced to Bravely Default.

The first Bravely Default was originally released as a Nintendo 3DS exclusive, where it was a return to the job-based Final Fantasy games while implementing a unique turn-based combat system via the Brave and Default actions. The first game got a direct sequel known as Bravely Second in 2015, also released on the 3DS, along with a numbered sequel, Bravely Default 2, on Nintendo Switch in 2021. According to notable leaker Midori, Square Enix and Team Asano could be working on a sequel to the series or another past title.

More Evidence of Dragon Quest HD-2D Trilogy Leaks Online

A reliable leaker shares more evidence regarding Square Enix's plans to remake the first three Dragon Quest games in the HD-2D style.

In some recent tweets posted on Midori's account, she claims that a Dragon Quest 2D-HD remake and the recently leaked Octopath Traveler ports aren't the only games that Team Asano is currently working on. She states that there is another game in development by Team Asano that is a "sequel to a previous title," and that it hasn't been announced yet. She also clarifies that Team Asano isn't developing an Octopath Traveler 3 at this time, so it is unlikely to be a follow-up to last year's game.

Team Asano is Working On a Sequel, But It's Not Octopath Traveler 3

Based on Team Asano's output in the last few years, it's possible that the developer is working on a new Bravely series JRPG. Tomoya Asano himself teased fans about a new Bravely Default-related game announcement earlier this year, stating that the developers will be revealing news about the series sometime this year. As such, most fans have speculated that Team Asano could be working on a Bravely Third, following up on the plot threads set up all the way back in Bravely Second, or another numbered sequel in the form of Bravely Default 3.

Another prevailing theory is a follow-up to Square Enix's 2022 Live A Live remake, as Midori previously did a poll asking if fans would play a new Live A Live title, which is something she usually asks her followers when teasing a possible new game or related content. Despite Midori's incredibly reliable track record so far, fans should still take these claims with a grain of salt. With Summer Game Fest just around the corner, fans should wait for more official information about what sequel Team Asano is working on, if at all.
