Cloud Imperium Games has announced that Squadron 42, the single player aspect of of the space simulation game, Star Citizen, has been delayed once again with no new release date in sight.

While fans have been quite vocal regarding the developer's poor communication during development of Star Citizen, Cloud Imperium Founder Chris Roberts announced on the game's official forums that Squadron 42 would miss the expected release date. Roberts also added that the game will simply release when it's done.

Roberts went on to state that games like Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us Part 2, and Cyberpunk 2077 have all taken a lot longer than originally expected, adding that those specific games only announced release dates well into development. The disappointing news comes just a few months after a new crowdfunding milestone was reached by Cloud Imperium, with the developer having received over $300 million since the project was announced in 2012.

The long development of the game has caused an uproar from fans, with many release dates being missed and promised features not being implemented in the game as of yet. Earlier in the year, Chris Roberts responded to a fan-made YouTube video that outlined the Atmospheric Room System, a feature promised 4 years ago by the developer and is still missing in the game.

The YouTube video went into detail on how the Atmospheric Room System was not in the game as promised, prompting Roberts to respond and defend that the system is in the game but other features that properly emulate the promised feature are currently missing.

Squadron 42 is targeting a PC release.
