How to Farm Gems in Squad Busters

A post-match summary from Supercell's Squad Busters

Gems are the key to victory in Squad Busters, but there is an incentive for players to collect as many of them in matches as possible that extend beyond simply picking up the victory or a spot on the virtual podium. With each gem collected, players will progress through their Gem Pass, which holds a reward for each tier that is reached. Rewards greatly vary from Chests and Chest Tickets, to Coins and in-game boosts. With this in mind, farming gems effectively will require some forethought and strategy while in the arena.

Rank in Matches

The first and perhaps most obvious way players can earn gems in Squad Busters quickly is by trying to win or rank high in matches. There are two motivations behind this; firstly, the gem total you finish a match with is an amount you will be able to keep and put towards your Gem Pass progression. As an added kicker, players also receive a gem bonus according to where they rank in a 10-person match, with first place naturally getting the biggest bonus.

Kill Bosses

For each enemy you kill in a Squad Busters match, you will be awarded coins and gems to collect and build a stronger team. The larger the enemy you kill, the greater the rewards you will reap. With this in mind, the further into the center of the map you venture, the bigger and more difficult the enemies will be to take down. The largest of them, the boss enemies, will require a formidable team of characters and likely a Fusion character or two, but the rewards for overcoming the challenge can be a real difference maker in the later stages of a match.

Complete Battle Mod Objectives

Every match in Squad Busters will have a randomly generated condition, or Battle Mod, that will add an extra layer of excitement and a point of difference for the game. Some of these, such as Whack-A-Mole or Tree Giants, add new enemies to the match specific to the mod that carry extra gold and gems for players to collect. In these match types, players should focus on taking down these special enemies, as they are a great way to quickly accumulate gems and get off to a good start.

Use Resource-Collecting Characters

While character options are randomly generated, players should opt for characters that favor resource collection as their starting roster member. Characters like Greg and Mavis are prime candidates as they collect resources from trees and carrot patches, respectively, both of which contain a healthy dose of coins and gems.

Similarly, Goblin is a great first choice for a match, as the bonus coins he gives you upon spawning can mean you'll instantly be able to open another chest and reel in another character to your squad. Ultimately, Goblin will be just as valuable for gem collection, as quickly growing your team will enable you to bust other players and take down bigger enemies earlier than usual.

Bust Opposition Players

One of the sure-fire ways to earn some quick gems in Squad Busters is to do exactly what the game title suggests - bust some squads. Players who are overpowered by their friends or fellow combatants and eliminated will surrender their gem total to the one who takes them down, meaning you'll want to avoid being on the receiving end of a knockout, or your gem supply will take a significant hit.

The effectiveness of gem farming via busting other players comes down to the strength of the rival and how many gems they have. If it's early in the game or there is a significant imbalance, then there won't be a big reward on the other end, whereas taking down one of the top performers has the potential to cause a significant spike in your gem total. With that said, it's still worth busting the weaker players, as each bust will earn you a free chest, meaning you'll get another character added to your team at no extra cost.
