Following the successful launch of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy last year, the video game publisher Activision promised to release even more remasters in the future, which led many to begin speculating whether or not the company would be bringing back one of the most beloved franchises of all time with Spyro the Dragon. Now, according to sources familiar with the project, it seems as if a remaster of the original trilogy featuring the flying purple serpent is currently in the works for the PlayStation 4.

This information comes courtesy of a report from Kotaku UK, with the potential Spyro the Dragon Trilogy Remaster supposedly set to be announced in March 2018 and released at some point in Q3 2018. As it so happens, one of Kotaku UK's sources went as far as to suggest that September would be the launch month, which would sync up nicely with the franchise's forthcoming 20th anniversary.

According to the report, the Spyro the Dragon Trilogy Remaster is currently in development with Vicarious Visions at the helm, which happens to be the same studio who handled Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Apparently, the title is going to be a one-year timed exclusive for PS4, and will eventually receive ports for other systems in 2019. No specific platforms other than PS4 have been named, but it's safe to presume that many Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One fans would like to get their hands on a copy of the remastered trilogy.

As far as the content of the Spyro the Dragon Trilogy Remaster is concerned, the project features new assets, lighting, animations, and cinematics, in addition to a totally remastered soundtrack. Furthermore, it will also have updates to the save feature, and include Spyro the Dragon, Ripto's Rage!, and Year of the Dragon. Plus, there's the possibility of some content cut from the original titles to be included in the forthcoming compendium.

All things considered, with remasters and remakes being all the rage nowadays, should Activision actually have a Spyro the Dragon Trilogy Remaster in the works, then the company surely stands to make a tidy sum off of the repackaged titles. After all, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy sales have reportedly surpassed 2.5 million units worldwide since it was released back in June 2017.

Activision and Vicarious Visions' Spyro the Dragon Trilogy Remaster has yet to be officially announced.
