After months of leaks and speculation, Spyro: Reignited Trilogy has been announced for PS4 and Xbox One. The trilogy will remake Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, and and Spyro: Year of the Dragon with revamped graphics, modern controls, new music, new cut-scenes, and new challenges.
Spyro: Reignited Trilogy was announced with a stunning trailer that also confirmed its release date, developer, and platforms. Spyro: Reignited Trilogy will be developed by Toys for Bob for PS4 and Xbox One with a planned September 21 release date.
Fans can check out the trailer below, but those with Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy can watch it through that game as well. Simply start Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, and then scroll over to the Crash Bandicoot: Warped title menu. With the Crash Bandicoot: Warped menu selected, input the following code: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Square. If done properly, the trailer for Spyro: Reignited Trilogy will start playing.
Even though Spyro: Reignited Trilogy was leaked months ago, it's exciting that the game has finally gotten an official announcement. It sounds like it will be very similar to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy in the ways it will update the original Spyro games for modern consoles, though there could be more enhancements and additions that have yet to be detailed by Activision. While it's not surprising to see Spyro: Reignited Trilogy finally announced, some may be surprised that a Nintendo Switch version wasn't announced as well. After all, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is being ported to the Switch, and since Spyro: Reignited Trilogy won't be timed-exclusive for PS4, one would have thought it would come to all platforms simultaneously.
Perhaps more information on why Spyro: Reignited Trilogy isn't coming to Switch will come to light over the next few months. In the meantime, PS4 and Xbox One owners can mark their calendars for the day they can revisit Spyro's original adventures.
