Just in time for Spyro the Dragon's 20th anniversary, everyone's favorite purple dragon is coming back for a remaster of the franchise's iconic first three games. Early impressions have been encouraging, and this launch trailer further emphasizes the effort developer Toys for Bob is putting into the presentation.

Releasing November 13 on PS4 and Xbox One, Spyro Reignited Trilogy is one of 2018's most highly anticipated releases, and any new footage that gives insight into what to expect is surely appreciated by many.

The original Spyro trilogy had a striking visual style, complimented by purple and orange skies, sun-kissed fields, and magnificent dragons. Wisely, the developers seem to have reincorporated those elements into their fully remastered world, capturing the spirit of the original without the rough edges. In both the gameplay and cinematic footage seen in the new trailer, Spyro the Dragon looks and sounds better than ever "all scaled up in stunning HD."

It's also immediately clear to anyone familiar with the series that Toys for Bob isn't interested in a shot-for-shot remake, but instead is drawing from the source material to create something satisfying to nostalgic fans, yet fresh enough for a new, younger audience to enjoy. Co-studio head Paul Yan spoke to GameSpot recently about striking that balance.

"Our philosophy was to try to understand the key style points of the character, and understand what the intention was," Yan said. "We'd ask what was the story Insomniac were trying to tell? Once we felt like we understood that, we'd then try to inject as much new storytelling as we could into both the environments and the characters."

Originally slated for release back in September, Toys for Bob announced just recently that the remastered trilogy set would be delayed until its current November release. In a statement released by Yan, the studio affirmed that the extra couple months needed to wrap up development would be "worth the wait" for eager Spyro fans.

For those wanting to re-experience the Spyro they played 20 years ago, they'll need to find an original PlayStation or hope for its appearance on the upcoming PlayStation Classic.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is set for release on Xbox One and PS4 November 13.
