Spy x Family premiered on April 9, 2022, and has been one of the top anime watched this season. Its wholesome elements, coupled with action and comedic scenes, make sense as to why it's been a success. These factors ensure that viewers are engaged and amused, making it so successful since its release.
The anime follows a spy of a nation called Westalis, whose codename is 'Twilight.' His mission essentially requires him to have a fake family in order to execute it successfully. While the series focuses on them extensively, it's worth wondering just who makes up the Forger "family".
Loid Forger
Loid's true identity is unidentified, but he goes by' Twilight.' He is tall and clearly meant to be a handsome man. The name Loid Forger is created when Twilight takes on a mission requiring him to adopt an alias. His mission is to spy on the National Unity Party's leader of Westalis's rival country, Ostania.
In order to execute this, Twilight must find a way to get close to the leader, Donovan Desmond, and the best way to do so is to enroll 'his child' in the same school. However, Twilight– or rather, Loid, doesn't have a child, and as a result, has to adopt one. Following the adoption of his daughter, Anya, Loid realizes he needs a wife as well. Thus, he manages to marry Yor while playing the role of a psychiatrist. As a government agent, Twilight has had to take on numerous identities in the past, but none were as challenging as being a father (and husband).
Anya Forger
Anya is a six-year-old girl who encounters Loid when he visits her orphanage in search of a child to adopt. Unbeknownst to him (and her future mother, Yor), Anya is a mind-reader. Unfortunately, this is not a natural ability that she was born with.
Anya obtained her power through experiments she had to endure in her past. Based on the anime, her history remains mysterious for now. Regardless, she uses her ability to somewhat sway Loid to adopt her and attempt to get closer to him (and later, Yor). As a result of her ability, she is the only one in the family who knows about her parents' true occupations.
Yor Forger
The last person to join the family is Yor. While Loid is searching for the best candidate to take on the role of his wife, he meets Yor at a boutique. As it turns out, she is perfect for him. She accepts his proposal for her own personal reasons, including that the absence of a husband or partner would raise suspicion around her. Unbeknownst to Loid, Yor is an assassin who goes by the codename, Thorn Princess. Her name reflects her character: strong, protective, and nurturing.
Due to her secret profession, she is quiet. She usually keeps to herself when working at Berlint City Hall, where she attempts to blend in with regular people. Additionally, her career as an assassin also contributes to the way she tends to resolve issues by immediately jumping to murder. This contradicts Loid's composed demeanor. Yor is entirely aware that she is part of a pretend family, but she expresses her interest in being a real mother to Anya. She may not be a conventional mother, but she is still a mother in her own way, even beginning Anya's training to defend herself.
Bond Forger
Sometime in the series, the Forger family adopts a large white dog that Anya names Bond. Unlike most dogs, if not all, Bond has precognition abilities that make him the perfect addition to the family. If the mother, father, and daughter possess unique skills, then it would only make sense for their pet to bear a special kind of ability as well.
What's Next for the Family?
After Anya successfully joins Eden Academy, the prestigious school that Donovan Desmond's son also attends, things fall apart for her. Within a short time of meeting her classmate, Damian Desmond, Anya punches him in the face. This proves to be problematic for Loid's overall plan. As a result, Loid intervenes to set things back on track by disguising himself as an employee at the school. Fortunately, he accomplishes this, and Anya apologizes. However, Damian runs off after feeling abashed at her apology.
Additionally, it's revealed that Yor's younger brother, Yuri, works for the State Security Service and, therefore, is targeting Twilight. When Yuri meets Loid, he is so distrusting of his sister's husband that he fabricates lies, but Loid can see through him anyway. The meeting between the three turns into pure chaos as Yuri's obsession with his sister leads to jealousy. Seemingly without Yuri's knowledge, two agents from the State Security Service approach Yor the next day, insinuating she is guilty. Yor handles the situation and denies the allegations, thus exhibiting her headstrong personality that remains concealed in most of her scenes.
