The Spring Anime season is almost upon us, and it is time to start choosing which shows we are going to watch. For isekai fans, one of the top choices is likely KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! 3 (herein KonoSuba 3), which will premiere on April 10, 2024. The anime will continue the story already established by the KonoSuba franchise so far, telling us the next part of the band of unlikely adventurers' story.

What do we already know about it? We may not know much about the exact plot yet beyond what we can see in the trailer, but we do have some fair guesses based on the patterns from past seasons. Plus, we at least know some details regarding the cast, and even the opening and ending songs. Let's have a preview of everything we know about KonoSuba 3!

The World of KonoSuba

meghumin and yun yun

As you can guess from the "3" in the title, KonoSuba 3 is a sequel anime. The series began back in January 2016, and has since had two regular seasons, and one anime movie called Legend of Crimson. This latest season was announced via X (then Twitter) on July 18th, 2021 as being in production, and now two and a half years later we are finally going to get it. As with previous seasons, it has already been licensed by CrunchyRoll.

KonoSuba is a comedy and fantasy anime, and, of course, an isekai first and foremost! It breaks a common trope in the isekai genre, though, by making its main character not all-powerful and strong when transported into another world. Instead, when Kazuma Satou is given the chance to be reincarnated into an alternate world with MMORPG-like elements by a goddess named Aqua upon his death, he ends up just an ordinary adventurer there after choosing to have Aqua accompany him rather than having a special power.

The problem is, Aqua is not actually very powerful herself, either. The two also recruit two more party members named Darkness and Megumin to try to defeat the Demon King so that Aqua can return to the afterlife, but their dysfunctional party quickly learns they don't stand a chance at doing so. Despite deciding to just try to live normal lives, the party continues to have to fight the Demon King's generals in battle after battle, and have to try to defeat him after all if they ever want it to end.

The (Likely) Plot of KonoSuba 3

While no official plot has been released yet for KonoSuba 3, there is speculation that it will cover light novel volumes 6 and 7. According to RadioTimes, an overview of the plot of these volumes is as follows (skip this part if you want to avoid all possible spoilers):

Kazuma is living comfortably with the reward money as news of his victories against the Devil King spread.

This soon sparks interest from the Crown, with Princess Iris enlisting his help to capture the Chivalrous Thief Chris, who has poached the empire's wealth.

However, a skirmish with the Devil King's army ends in disaster, and Kazuma is exiled in disgrace and separated from his trusted party. The reincarnated former gamer will then have to clear his name - and uncover a far-reaching royal conspiracy while he's at it...

Season 3 will also likely develop the budding relationship between Kazuma and Megumin, which was a key focus of the 2019 movie.

The good news is that while we do not have an official plot released yet, there is an official trailer for KonoSuba 3, which you can watch above. The trailer was released in the first week of March, and at the time of publishing, had over 644,000 views. After a long wait between this season being announced, and it being actually released, it is clear that people are excited.

KonoSuba 3 Production Details

Reincarnated as a Slime, Cautious Hero, Combatants Will Be Dispatched

The previous voice cast of KonoSuba will be returning for this latest season, including Jun Fukushima as the main character Kazuma, Sora Amamiya as Aqua, Rie Takahashi as Megumin, and Ai Kayano as Darkness. The studio behind the anime is Drive (Fate/Grand Order), and the producers are Half H.P Studio, Nippon Columbia, and Kadokawa. The opening song is "Growing Up," performed by Machico, and the ending song, titled "Ano Hi no Mama no Bokura," is performed by Amamiya, Takahashi, and Kayano as their respective characters.

While the number of episodes in season 3 has not been announced yet, we predict it will have 10 episodes as both of the previous seasons had, and likely an OVA as well also based on the first two seasons. Both of the previous seasons ended with one more special episode, so it is likely that KonoSuba 3 will follow the same pattern, too, though likely not until several months have passed. However, it should be noted that the OVAs are not considered canon to the KonoSuba story, so if there is a third one, it will likely be just for fun as well.

While we may not know the details of KonoSuba 3 and likely won't until it starts airing, we can guarantee that it will be another season of hijinks, laughter, and fun with a cast of quirky and lovable characters. It will also be essential to be up-to-date on the KonoSuba series so far, so if you are considering watching KonoSuba 3, be sure to watch the first two seasons and movie between now and the release of the new season!

KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! 3 will air on Crunchyroll on April 10, 2024.
