Every year, the anime of the spring season is filled with interesting shows that spice up the anime world differently. Some titles are slice-of-life oriented, others fantasy-based with an Isekai undertone, and some occasionally dive into the world of sports, all allowing fans to choose from an interesting array of options.

The Spring 2022 anime are no different. Each title offers a different experience for fans & viewers alike. Dozens of shows have been released this year, and out of these fantastic titles, some stand out due to their plot, storyline, and their entertainment value. Unfortunately, with most of these shows close to their ending, fans are faced long periods of waiting before getting sequel of their favorite series. Regardless, if most were to choose the anime of the 2022 spring season that needs quick follow-up sequels, some iconic titles stand out.

9 Ao Ashi

Ao Ashi is based on the manga series written & illustrated by Naohiko Ueno and Yuugo Kobayashi, respectively. This anime added the sports-oriented spice to the Spring 2022 anime mix. The anime follows the story of Aoshito Ao, a boy from a poor background, who loves soccer. Ao Ashito lives in Ehime alongside his mother and elder brother, and life is relatively happy until he meets Tatsuya Furuda – a coach of the J Youth League.

Tatsuya sparks a burning desire in Ashito to play soccer internationally, and after a touching family saga, his mother agrees to his departure to Tokyo. After getting into the team, Ashito discovers that his football skills are rough and unpolished. Still, he refuses to give up, willing to learn football from scratch if that’s what it takes to succeed.

The manga series of Ao Ashi has about 20 volumes. Hence, if the season doesn’t catch up to the manga, a sequel needs to be planned as soon as possible following the story’s awesome arc.

8 Komi Can’t Communicate

Komi Can’t Communicate is an anime that does justice to its title. The slice-of-life anime revolves around a high school student, Shoko Komi, an incredibly shy girl who finds it difficult to communicate with the people around her. Ironically, she is revered as the class goddess even though she is just a socially anxious individual with no friends. Fortunately for her, this began to change after she met Hitohito Tadano, who succeeded in becoming her first friend. After years of living in seclusion, things are about to change for Komi as Tadano helps her make new friends.

Komi Can't Communicate is based on the manga, which has about 360 chapters. While the current season's number of episodes is still unclear, it is unlikely that the show will exhaust the source material anytime soon. With that in mind, another epic sequel for this unique slice-of-life will be received happily by anime fans.

7 The Executioner And Her Way Of Life

The Executioner And Her Way of Life is among 2022’s underrated titles despite the awesome themes the title features. The anime follows an antihero protagonist, Menou, who works for the church as an assassin underdog with the duty of eliminating otherwolders to prevent disasters from happening. What starts out as a make-believe Isekai anime with the misleading appearance of a male character quickly transforms into a female-lead fantasy story with a unique main character.

The Executioner And Her Way Of Life is based on the light novel series of the same name, which currently has four volumes. As the first season of the fantasy anime is about to end, fans can only wish the next season hits the internet as soon as possible.

6 The Rising Of The Shield Hero

The Rising of the Shield Hero is based on the light novels written by Aneko Yusgai. While the anime has adapted a good portion of the source material, the story is nowhere close to the novel’s ending. The Rising of the Shield Hero is an Isekai fantasy storystarring Naofumi Iwatani, who is summoned to another world as a Cardinal Hero to fight a malevolent phenomenon referred to as the waves.

While season one was pretty straightforward, the second season is filled with twists and new developments that differ significantly from what fans experienced in the first. Many fans appreciated this development, and some didn't. Either way, as the second season ends on the 22nd of June, a deserving sequel would be well-appreciated.

5 Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie

Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie is the perfect slice-of-life show to check out among 2022 spring anime. This rom-com series presents a unique but adorable relationship between Shikimori & Izumi. Shikimori is a cute character who appears to be the perfect girlfriend, until her darker side is revealed whenever Izumi encounters trouble. Meanwhile, Izumi is an air-headed character with awful luck and a poor sense of balance.

Ever since Izumi & Shikimori became acquainted with each other, Izumi's frustrating life brightened considerably as she helped him in different ways. Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie follows the manga series, which currently has 148 chapters. Certainly, this rom-com show is among the anime that deserves another sequel.

4 Summer Time Rendering

Summer Time Rendering is a psychological thriller set on an island filled with a dangerous mystery that lurks in the darkness. The anime follows the attempts of Ajiro Shinpei to discover the true meaning behind the Shadow occurrences and how it's linked to the death of his childhood friend. The anime is lined with unexpected, unpredictable developments.

Summer Time Rendering is based on the 139-chapter manga of the same name. Presently, it's unclear if the anime will cover the whole manga since the season is set for 25 episodes. However, if it doesn't, a sequel will be needed as soon as possible to provide an answer to the shadow-lined mystery.

3 Kaguya-sama: Love Is War - Ultra Romantic

The classic rom-com series, Love is War, features the battle between Kaguya & Miyuki. A bugging question the series resonates with is, "who will confess their love first – Miyuki or Kaguya?" Although there is no clear question to this answer yet, the third season of the series spices up the romantic drama even more.

The manga is nowhere close to ending, since it has 266 chapters and is still ongoing. As such, fans can likely expect another fulfilling sequel after the ending of the third season.

2 Ya Boy Kongming!

Ya Boy Kongming! certainly adds a different spice to the default slice-of-life formula, which it mixes with low Isekai undertones. Kongming, the protagonist of the series, was a war strategist, compared to the Chinese war genius Sun Tzu who wrote the Art of War. On his deathbed after living a life of war & blood-filled battles, Kongming wished to be reborn in an era of peace.

Fortunately, he got just what he wanted as he is reincarnated into a modern-day Tokyo, where he encounters new experiences. Using his brilliant skills as a strategist, Kongming paves his way through the new world he finds himself in. As the first season of Ya Boy Kongming! has officially ended, fans a lot of anime fans yearn for a sequel to this unique Chinese-inspired anime.

1 Spy x Family

Undoubtedly, Spy x Family holds the crown as the best anime of the spring 2022 season. The anime follows the Forger family, which consists of an expert spy agent, a mind-reading child, and a dangerous assassin. The hilarious anime is spiked with the different drama surrounding each family member and how it is resolved in its own way. While the mind-reading child of the Forgers, Anya, is aware of everyone's secrets, the trio still manages to bond with each other like an ideal family, which is quite far from their reality.

Spy x Family is based on the award-winning manga series and is animated by a combined effort between Wit Studio & CloverWorks. With one episode left to finalize the series' first season, fans can only hope that the anime's second season is available as soon as possible.
