Splinter Cell fans begin to ask if Ubisoft could soon announce a new game in the series after a Netflix show is announced. Today, it was revealed that Netflix is working with Ubisoft on an animated Splinter Cell series and that two series (16 episodes) of the show have been approved.

While Netflix's new Splinter Cell series doesn't have a release date, a cast, and only one member of the team (John Wick Writer Derek Kolstad) has been confirmed, fans are now asking what sort of implications the announcement could have. Popular gaming YouTuber MrMattyPlays was quick to respond to the news, calling it "awesome and hilarious" and joking that "Ubisoft has done literally everything BUT make a new Splinter Cell game." This sentiment was echoed by another popular YouTuber, LegacyKillaHD, who said that "Ubisoft continues to do everything BUT make a new Splinter Cell game".

Gaming news Twitter account Nibellion also weighed in, saying that while this is only an animated Splinter Cell show, "there is a reason" why Ubisoft is making it. Nibellion "wouldn't be surprised if something is in development or being examined at least." The Twitter user said that the same goes for Dragon's Dogma, another series with a newly announced Netflix show.

Ubisoft has not officially announced a new Splinter Cell game. However, earlier this month, Sam Fisher's Italian voice actor told fans to expect a new Splinter Cell game. The voice actor, Luca Ward, called it "a fact" that Splinter Cell will return and said that the "conclusive episode" in the popular game series could arrive as soon as 2021. That does seem like a long shot, but it's something that fans were quick to latch onto.

It's also not unheard of for publishers to respond to calls for a game on social media and for high-profile media personalities, like the YouTubers who tweeted about Splinter Cell today, to help make that happen. This is what happened with the new Skate game announced by EA in June. While the company hasn't explicitly said that tweets about Skate 4 from people like Tyler, the Creator, are the reason the game is being made, developers on the new Skate title have admitted that those tweets didn't hurt the cause.

If Ubisoft is working on something else Splinter Cell, as Nibellion has speculated, then it could be announced towards the end of the year. Ubisoft has confirmed that it will be holding another Ubisoft Forward event in 2020 and while there aren't many details about the event, it is possible that a new Splinter Cell game will be revealed as part of it.
