Nintendo has confirmed that the next Splatfest for Splatoon 3 will be based on the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The Splatfests are limited-time multiplayer extravaganzas, where for an entire weekend, players will get the chance to represent a side and battle it out for bragging rights. For Splatoon 3, instead of just two teams competing like in previous games, it’s three. The next Splatfest will be coming soon, which will be tied into Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.Splatfests have been used to promote upcoming Nintendo games. Back in November in the lead-up to the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, a Splatfest was held to see which Pokemon starter type was the best. To capitalize on the upcoming release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players will get a chance to participate in a similarly themed Splatfest.RELATED: First Splatoon 3 Eggstra Work Salmon Run Event Dates and Time RevealedThe three teams for this upcoming Splatfest are based on the three core components of the Zelda franchise’s legendary Triforce. The goddesses of Hyrule broke this power into three triangles, which represent Din's Power, Nayru's Wisdom, and Farore's Courage. Typically, Ganondorf possesses the one containing Power, Wisdom is held by Zelda, and Link holds the Triforce of Courage. Players will get to choose between these before battling it out in the three-way Splatfest. This event will be held May 5-7, which is a week before the release of Tears of the Kingdom.

When is the Next Splatfest in Splatoon?

  • May 5 - May 7

The three teams will all get special shirts designed after these Zelda characters, with each team’s colors corresponding to the three goddesses: Power is red, Wisdom is blue, and Courage is green. On top of that, the Triforce-themed Tricolor Turf War matches will take place over a special version of the Scorch Gorge map, which is shaped like an equilateral triangle, much like the Triforce. There are even segments that are divided to make it look like the legendary Zelda artifact.

With the Breath of the Wild sequel less than a month away now, Nintendo has been putting a lot of effort into promoting its release. Recently, a new gameplay showcase for Tears of the Kingdom showed off its story, mechanics, and even Ganondorf in a revitalized state. The excitement behind this game is unreal, and this Splatfest should serve as something to look forward to alongside the release of Tears of the Kingdom a week later.

Splatoon 3 is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
