Splatoon 3 has come out and has had a very successful launch, outpacing both Animal Crossing and Pokemon in terms of sales. Players are now participating in Splatoon 3's turf wars, story content, and salmon runs. Many wish to level up fast, because the more a player levels up then the more weapons they can access and purchase at Sheldon's weapon store.

Over the course of the series, Splatoon has developed many weapons to choose from. Players can melee with an Inkbrush or Carbon Roller, or go ranged with Dualie Squelchers or Mini Splatlings. Every weapon is different, as similar ones can still have different Specials like Inkjets or Booyah Bombs. To pick a weapon that works best for someone's playstyle, players must take advantage of the testing room.

How To Test A Weapon

Shelden's store.

To test weapons, go to Sheldon's weapon store, Ammo Knights. Notice that in the lower right corner, there is a prompt for how to test a weapon (but it is small and can be easily missed). So find a weapon and press Y. Hit the accept button to go to the testing room. This will teleport the player to a particular room where they can use the selected weapon to their heart's content.

There is no "right way" to test a weapon, but it is recommended to use it until its Special is ready to go. That way, the player can get a feel for the Special as well as the weapon itself. There are also fake enemies (known as Squid Bumpers) to hit with the weapon. The larger Squid Bumpers can show the amount of damage done upon hit.

Every weapon can be tested, even if it is not unlocked to buy yet.

How To Clean Up And Leave

Octoling using Inkbrush on Squid Bumper.

One function of the testing room is that the ink can be cleaned up after covering it in ink. This is for players that want to continue testing the weapon after covering a lot of the room with ink. To clean up the room, press the Menu button (the minus symbol on the Switch controller). Select cleanup and the room will become a fresh slate to ink again.

Exiting the testing room and going back to the store also requires pressing the Menu button. Instead of selecting cleanup, though, press the Leave option. This will take the player back to Ammo Knights.

Splatoon 3 is available for the Nintendo Switch.
