Splatoon 3 is getting a brand new Salmon Run event called Eggstra Work, and now more details and the start date have been revealed. The event should provide for an interesting twist on standard Splatoon 3 PVE.

Standard Salmon Run has a simple premise: go to a location, splat Salmonids, and collect Golden Eggs. Providing that players make it through three rounds and reach their Golden Egg quota, they're rewarded with prizes, ranging from equipment to food tickets. Big Run shook up this formula previously by moving Salmon Run to maps usually reserved for PVP matches, while Eggstra Work will spice up the mode in a different way.

The first Eggstra Work shift is set to occur from April 14 at 5 pm PT and April 16 at the same time. Like in Big Run, players' reward will vary depending on how many Golden Eggs they bring home in comparison to their fellow players, with participation, Bronze, Silver, and Gold stickers awarded based on rank. These stickers can be used to decorate player lockers. The first event will be held on Sockeye Station. However, the differences in how Eggstra Work and other Salmon Run modes function are considerable.

Eggstra Work is a bit more static, in that the scenario will be the same for all players regardless of how many times they play it. This means that players can team up to figure out what strategies work best for them to collect as many Golden Eggs as possible. Unlike Big Run and standard Salmon Run, Eggstra Work will have five rounds total. Rather than a rotating list of weapons, players can choose a weapon at the start, and will keep it for the entire run. The weapons will include the Splattershot, Splat Roller, Splat Charger, and Blaster. Interestingly, Eggstra Work will have no impact on a player's overall Salmon Run rank, so players can try it until they're satisfied, with no penalties for losses.

Splatoon 3 has seen fewer Splatfests than its predecessors, likely due to the increase in alternative events like this one. Even outside of the Side Order DLC, Splatoon 3 has been adding new activities to keep players engaged. At the moment, it's not clear how often Eggstra Work will be held. It may be added to the rotation of alternating events with Splatfests and Big Run, which could mean a new Eggstra Work roughly every three months. While not every new event will be to every player's liking, those who lamented Salmon Run only being available occasionally in Splatoon 2 should be quite happy with these additions.

Splatoon 3 is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
