The most recent Splatoon 2 Splatfest has come to a close, and the results are in. Although Splatfests are not run regularly as they once were, Nintendo just ran a Super Mario-themed Splatfest in Splatoon 2 over the weekend.

Nintendo has hosted a bevy of oddball Splatfests over the years. Celebrating the 35th Anniversary of Super Mario is, of course, a more traditional Splatfest. Players had the option between Super Mushroom and Super Star. The final results were pretty close, but Super Mushroom won.

Super Star actually took home 68.20 percent of the popular vote, a huge victory. However, that is only one-third of the equation in the Splatoon 2 Splatfests. The players who then represented Super Mushroom in Normal and Pro games took home more victories in online play, with 53.41% in Normal and 54.12% in Pro. The final tally comes out to Super Mushroom 2 and Super Star 1; victory going to Super Mushroom.

The limited nature of the Splatfests in Splatoon 2 makes it so that each one is rather special. While they were at one point topics as silly and common as mayo vs ketchup, Nintendo saves the bigger and more grandiose ones now for holidays or special occasions, such as this celebration for Super Mario's 35th anniversary.

Moving forward, it is entirely possible that Splatoon 3 is eventually revealed; something that would certainly be exciting for many fans. Splatoon 2 has definitely lost steam since it launched in 2017, but Nintendo is still supporting it with these small events. Other special Splatfests are probably still on the way, like a celebration for Zelda's 35th anniversary, for example.

Splatoon 2 is now available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch
