Thunder Lotus Games, the makers of the 2020 feelgood game Spiritfarer has released a few updates this year that introduced new Spirits. The indie studio has announced the release date for the last Spiritfarer update of 2021 that will introduce Jackie and Daria.

The Spiritfarer: Jackie and Daria free Autumn update will introduce the new characters along with a trippy new minigame, a new island, new boat buildings, and more information that Mederic Belair at Thunder Lotus says they will reveal closer to the update's launch. Previous blog posts and updates throughout the year have claimed that this Autumn update will be the biggest yet for the game. The last two DLC updates for Spiritfarer came with some quality of life updates along with the new content, so it could be expected that Thunder Lotus could be bringing more into the fold.

The free update will go live on December 13th and will add Jackie the hyena, described as "the caretaker" and Daria, a bat defined as 'the patient" to the 2020 hit indie game about inventory management and heavier subject matter. These new characters seem intertwined and players could find them around the same place, described as a dilapidated hospital. The character description given by Thunder Lotus earlier this year refers to Daria as Jackie's "main patient". All of the other characters introduced were connected to Stella, the main character, in some way. Lily was Stella's sister, while Beverly was her neighbor. And the main characters were all people that Stella met in life. It will be a bit of a wait until the developers give out more information as to what Jackie and Daria's connection to Stella are.

Spiritfarer was praised in 2020 for its unique storytelling with dealing with the heavy subject matter of death and passing on and fans were delighted when Thunder Lotus revealed that they were adding new Spirits to Spiritfarer throughout 2021. Its gameplay loop or item collection, cooking, crafting, and inventory management when dealing with new boat buildings was seen as a charming break in-between dealing with some of the heavier dialogue and the lessons given by each of the spirits.

Thunder Lotus teased that more information will be coming out closer to the DLC's launch. Maybe there could be some more information on the developers future plans for this game, or development of Spiritfarer could be taking its own journey to the Everdoor. Whatever that information turns out to be, its sure to be one of the most heartwarming but emotional journies of 2021 with some fun interactions and quaint management moments on the side.

Spiritfarer is out now on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
