With all that's available within the game, it can be difficult to keep track of the numerous items and their uses. To help players out, this guide will offer tips on unlocking and collecting the useful late-game resource, bottled ectoplasm.
How To Get Empty Bottles
As its name implies, Ectoplasm in a Bottle can't be collected unless players have an empty bottle. While they may not seem particularly useful, these components can be purchased cheaply for 20 glim from Francis. They are also frequently found inside of crates near shipwrecks.
Beyond their use as a source of glass in the ship's foundries, empty bottles can hold several items — namely glim, ectoplasm, and lightning itself. As such, they're useful to have on hand.
The Prerequisites
Like Spiritfarer's many other spirit-specific crafting materials, bottled ectoplasm can be earned when players plant the Mysterious Seed and are introduced to Stanley the mushroom spirit. He's a bizarre character, and the quests he has for Stella are stranger still. Regardless, players need to humor him — specifically, they must complete the 'Big Boy's Room' quest — to get closer to the bottled ectoplasm they desire. The table below shows what players need to complete this quest.
Item Needed | How to Obtain |
---|---|
1x Linen Fabric |
|
1x Tchotchke |

When Stanley has been given the items he desired, the guest house will transform and become an accommodation unique to him.
Starting the Ectoplasm Event
The hard part is out of the way. To begin the ectoplasm hunting event, players need to enter Stanley's room (formerly the guest house) and interact with the glowing beetle in the terrarium. Next, select 'yes' when prompted to begin the event. The sky will darken, and dozens of strange glowing creatures will begin scrambling all over the deck. They're difficult to catch due to their speed, but players with a well-designed boat won't have too much trouble filling their bottles to the brim.
When the event is over, players will then need to wait at least a day for the beetle to return, at which point they'll be free to start the event all over again.
Spiritfarer is available for Xbox One, Stadia, PC, PS4, and Switch.
