Like many cozy games out fight now, Spiritfarer is an adventure life-sim that allows players to enjoy relaxing activities while progressing through the story at their own pace. In this game, players are controlling a ferry master named Stella who helps lost souls embrace the afterlife. While Spiritfarer is fairly relaxed so that players can enjoy their time talking to the spirits, fishing, cooking, and organizing their boats, players are urged to go to different locations on the map and accept missions from the spirits. These missions can range from speaking to another spirit or finding a particular item.

Some of these missions can be hard to pass if Stella doesn’t have the right ability, however. Players can unlock these abilities by using Obols, the currency used to unlock abilities, at shrines located in different regions of the map. Each shrine holds a different ability and costs two Obols to unlock. Some abilities can unlock special blueprints for structures to place on Stella’s boat, while others will give Stella different moves to overcome obstacles along the way.

Updated May 27, 2023 by Nikole Stewart: Since the release of Spiritfarer back in August 2020, Thunder Lotus has done a great job at updating the game to keep players entertained. Since it's release, there have been three updates that have brought players new spirits and content. But while there are up to four new spirits to meet and story to explore, there are still the same abilities for players to utilize to help explore and unlock the game.

All the abilities have been listed, but the article has been reworked to help players find the Shrines easier with a graph of the locations up front, as well as any addition information in each entry to help players unlock and utilize these abilities as best as possible. These are all the abilities in Spiritfarer and how to unlock them.

7 Double Jump

The Double Jump is a great tool for needing to get to higher places. While Stella already has an impressive jump, with this ability, players can get to the higher parts of the maps to get to treasures or speak to people. This is the first ability that can be unlocked and is available at Hummingberg (coordinates are 39, 139).

After completely some missions for Gwen and getting Atul on the boat, players should have two Obols to help them unlock this skill. To utilize this ability, players simply press the jump button again while in the air. This can be very helpful during some boats mini-games such as catching lightning, fireflies, and jellyfish.

6 Glide

While in the air, players can hold down the jump button, causing Stella to use her giant hat as a parachute that will help Stella fly, allowing access to some areas that were restricted.

Stella can also use this ability over vents that can shoot them up in the air. This shrine is in Furogawa (coordinates are -150, 67). Acquiring this ability will also give players the Air Draft structure, like a vent, to put on their boat.

5 Zipline

This ability allows Stella to slide along the hanging ropes or wires that players often see around the cities. To apply this, players need to hold the up button when hopping on ropes and wires.

This shrine is in Nordweiler (coordinates -3, 185), and players will need purchase upgrades from Albert’s Shipyard so that the boat can break the ice to access this section. This ability also unlocks the Zipline structure blueprint for the boat.

4 Bounce

By pressing the jump button on Bouncy surfaces, Stella can jump higher and reach areas that were previously hard to get into. Bouncy surfaces are dumpsters, umbrellas, and window awnings. Repeating this action will further increase the height.

While the double jump may sound familiar, this action does allow more height than the other ability. This will give the player the bouncy structure blueprint. The shrine is in Oxbury (coordinates 233, 18). Players should note that they will need the Rock Destroyer upgrade to reach this destination.

3 Dash

Located at Greymist Peaks (coordinates 216, 96), this ability requires Glide and Bounce before obtaining Dash. There is a specific Dash button that the players will need to press for Stelle to release Everlight energy to leap forward.

This action does deplete the Everlight, causing a cooldown time of about three seconds, before it can be used again. To get to Greymist Peaks, however, players will need to make sure their boat has the upgrades necessary to get through rocks and fog.

2 Light Burst

By pressing the Light Burst button, this action will grant Stella a blast of Everlight in all directions around them. This is very useful skill for various collection events such as Buck’s Request,The Fires of Tondor, and the Shadow Steel Orcs. This is also a great tool to use during Dust Shades, Pulsar Rays, Jellyfish, and Fireflies.

While using this action depletes the Everlight (turning it darker in appearance) for about three seconds, it’s a great tool, nonetheless. This shrine requires completing the errand “Demon of Light”, which is given by Buck. After completing all requirements, players can head to coordinates -185, -92 to receive the Light Burst.

1 Improved Tools

This Lost Shrine can be found after completing the errand “Saturday Night Shopping List”, which is given by Francis. It is towards the end of the game that the old merchant gives Stella a treasure map with the coordinates to this shrine.

While this is not an ability for Stella to use, it is an important upgrade. Using this, Everlight will give Stella’s tools a boost, making fishing easier and a gemstone to drop when mining certain veins. After all requirements are met, players can go to coordinates 220, 167.
