After appearing in one of Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credit scenes, many fans were curious as to when Venom would show up again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or if he even would at all. Now it looks like there may be some hope, as No Way Home's writers believe there's a good chance he'll be featured in a future MCU project.

Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock/Venom was a character many fans thought would have a role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, a film that centered on the multiverse concept and saw the return of many characters from past Spider-Man installments. After the Venom: Let There Be Carnage post-credits scene pretty much confirmed his involvement in the MCU, Brock/Venom showed up in No Way Home's end credits scene, where the anti-hero is seen at a bar before returning to his own universe, but not before leaving some symbiote behind.

During IGN Fan Fest, Spider-Man:No Way Home writer Erik Sommers shared that the piece of Venom's symbiote staying behind opens up many doors as to when Venom could return in the MCU. "It leaves the door open for possibilities. As opposed to just seeing him go back and not seeing any symbiote," Sommers said. "So it just allows for some exciting possibilities in the future."

While Sommers' response is promising, co-writer Chris McKenna shared that he and Sommers are still unaware of Venom's involvement with characters outside the separate Sony universe. ""I have no idea. That is above our pay grade. We are part of a bigger, larger universe that we are not the gods of, we're just mortals in," McKenna added. "I think it was a fun idea that the sixth [member of] the Sinister Six gets stuck in a bar and doesn't get out of there, but maybe he leaves a little something behind. Again, we're not masters of that course of that next adventure."

When Venom was transported back to his universe only after spending a short time in the MCU, his brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home ultimately felt underwhelming, especially when his own sequel film teased that he would finally be in the same universe as Tom Holland's Spidey. But now with Holland expected to return for more Spider-Man films following his origin Homecoming trilogy, speculation has been brewing that Hardy's Venom will no doubt return at some point to face Holland's web-slinger.

Until that happens, though, fans can catch Hardy as Venom in Spider-Man: No Way Home and his latest solo outing, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Sony's supervillain film is a sequel to 2018's Venom and once again stars Hardy as Eddie Brock, an investigative journalist who is the host of the titular alien symbiote. This time around, Eddie is forced to use his new extraordinary abilities against Woody Harrelson's Cletus Kasady, a serial killer who becomes the host of another alien symbiote known as Carnage. Venom 2 earned a whopping $90 million at the box office during its opening weekend, setting a new pandemic record at the time.
