After the rather bleak ending for Tom Holland's Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, a small detail from the film's official script may offer a bit of hope for the MCU hero in the future.

Prior to Spider-Man: No Way Home, Holland had played Spider-Man for five years. His debut in the role was in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, where he was recruited by Tony Stark to capture Captain America and the rest of his team. Since his debut, Holland has been joined by several other constant characters in his films, including Jacob Batalon as Ned and Zendaya as Michelle Jones-Watson.

By the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the relationships Peter has built with both Ned and MJ seem impossible for him to rebuild. Despite the unbelievable difficulty of Peter's current situation, a scene from the No Way Home script offers a small sliver of hope that perhaps MJ and Peter will reconcile in the near future. After Peter finished a line MJ recites periodically throughout No Way Home, the script mentions, "A flicker of déjà vu on her face, then, recovering," as she goes on to say the next line. If MJ is able to have a quick sense of déjà vu, then there is hope for Peter and MJ's future together after all.

The script details the scene near the end where Peter enters the coffee shop MJ works at with hopes of reintroducing himself to her. Things don't go as Peter planned but within that conversation, Peter also gets a glimpse of what Ned and MJ's lives have become without knowing him or Spider-Man. For him, it's bittersweet, as they are enrolled in MIT, which was impossible to consider given their personal ties to Spider-Man at the beginning. Of course, knowing the anguish the three of them suffered as they attempted to save Earth from the Multiverse, it's hard to stomach.

Ned discovered Peter's secret back in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Holland's first solo film. He became Peter's "man in the chair" to help guide him on his dangerous missions, particularly his battle with Michael Keaton's Vulture. MJ confronted Peter about his alias in the sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home, where the two quickly discovered that Mysterio wasn't the hero the world had painted him out to be. Given the adventures Ned and MJ have shared with Peter and Spider-Man, it's difficult to imagine a world where the three of them are no longer fighting crime together.

With the heartbreaking death of Aunt May in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter is truly all alone. No one remembers him and because of that, none of the Avengers or their affiliates know of his identity or that he is capable of helping with out-of-this-world missions. Under the weight of such grief, there is likely a relief for Peter that those that he loves are no longer in danger and suffering because of his life choices. Hopefully, he's learned a few lessons and when he, MJ, and Ned eventually reconcile, he'll have a few new tricks up his sleeve.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters.
