Ahead of the theatrical releases of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and the current release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, one fan channeled their excitement into a piece of art that depicts an unexpected but intriguing crossover.

The fifth installment in Legendary Pictures' MonsterVerse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, will see the two monsters work together to defeat a colossal new threat. Even though filming concluded in November 2022 and the movie is now in post-production, few details about the movie have been confirmed. Aside from the title, it's been confirmed that Adam Wingard returned to direct the movie, and Bryan Tyree Henry, Kaylee Hottle, and Rebecca Hall returned to reprise their roles. In April 2023, Legendary Pictures released a Godzilla x Kong teaser trailer, giving fans their first look at what Kong and Godzilla could be up against.

With the theatrical release still about a year away, there's time for fans to speculate about the movie and create art of what they imagine Godzilla and Kong will be up to. One fan took a different direction and imagined what would happen if Kong and a few Spider-Man variants met in New York City. The art posted by @elilusionista.cl on Instagram depicts Kong raging through New York, decimating buildings. Combating Kong are a few familiar faces: Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men are all attempting to capture the massive gorilla, their webs wrapped around his wrist, neck, and face. Joining the fight are Venom, Spider-Gwen, and Miles Morales, who are cast in a golden light as they swing into the fray.

While the inspiration for the crossover probably came from the fact that both Kong and Spider-Man are traditionally New York-based characters, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse may have factored into it. Although the three Spider-Men who appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home are given the spotlight in the picture, Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen are still clearly and prominently featured alongside Venom. The two characters from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Venom's inclusion communicates the excitement about another Spider-Man-filled movie but also poses an interesting question: could these six characters have a canon crossover in their futures?

With Venom, the three live-action Spider-Men, and Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen all appearing in movies that confirm - and rely on - the existence of the multiverse, it's easy to wonder if a greater crossover is possible. Although he didn't meet any of the movie's three Spider-Men, Tom Hardy's Venom did appear in a post-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home that implied that even with Eddie Brock returning to his universe, Venom might make another appearance in the MCU. A Venom/live-action Spider-Man crossover is possible; the more intriguing and more complicated crossover would see the animated Miles and Gwen interacting with Holland, Maguire, and Garfield's Spider-Men.

Rumors of Holland's involvement in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse had been making the rounds since February 2023, with some suggesting Miles will end up in the live-action dimension Holland's Spider-Man lives in. Although this didn't happen, the idea is fun to consider, especially with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse coming to theaters next year.

Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse is now playing in theaters.
