When fan art isn't being used for its intended purpose of staging fights between Batman and every single other fictional character to have ever existed, it tends to be an oddly wholesome world populated with hypothetical creations depicting the happiness that many creators seem to think their heroes, including Spider-Man, don't deserve. So artists have decided to correct these cruelties by concocting their own fantasies, many of which are as simple as 2 people hanging out and not crying for once. But sometimes, the happy times and the crossovers join into one, and something magical happens.
That's where this latest work of swirly Photoshop magic comes into play. One fan artist had the idea to join together a multiverse of Spider-Man families, portraying a scene that would be an absolute joy to see in the trilogy-ending Spider-Man: No Way Home if it were feasible. Digital creator and Marvel fan César (aka elilusionista.cl) used some computer trickery to bring together 3 generations of teenage superheroes and their most stalwart supporters for a lovely family get-together, and it's a wonderful alternate reality.
Posting the image on Instagram, César combined shots from all 3 modern live-action iterations of Spider-Man to create a piece that's sure to make fans of each one feel a sense of comfort and ease. From the Sam Raimi trilogy through the slightly controversial Amazing Spider-Man duology and all the way to Tom Holland's current flagship run as the character, both Peter Parker and his Aunt May from each version are seen enjoying some time together in that familiar cozy kitchen. In a way, it feels like home.
In the background, Tobey Maguire's Peter is seen while the foreground features a dining room table packed with nostalgia. Tom Holland's Pete appears to get another lecture from Marisa Tomei's May while Rosemary Harris and Sally Field look on lovingly as their respective Aunts. Or perhaps they're listening to Andrew Garfield's teenage hero rattling off some banter of his own. Frankly, Maguire kind of looks a little mopey all alone in the back, which may have been intentional given his... interesting character takes in Spider-Man 3.
The cool thing about this is, it's technically possible for this exact scene to actually take place. Every person in the picture is still around, including the Raimi trilogy's Harris, who's still kicking at 94 years young. So while it probably wouldn't make much sense, a crossover scene like this in No Way Home would really do a lot to bring fans of all 3 worlds together. Naturally, that's a lot of wishful thinking, but if Alfred Molina can return as Doc Ock, then anything can theoretically happen.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is sure to be a cinematic bombshell whether or not it includes a scene like this. The sheer amount of returning faces, both confirmed and alleged, is enough to make the most ambitious fanfiction writers blush. So while an Aunt May family reunion might not happen, fans can go ahead and pretend it did. Nobody's stopping them. Thinking is free of charge.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will debut in theaters on December 17th, 2021.
