While he was briefly playable in the first game, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales marks Miles' debut as a playable Spider-Man in the PlayStation exclusive video game series. While Miles Morales himself debuted in the Ultimate Fallout series of comic books only less than a decade ago, the character has made a huge impact on the entire Marvel Comics canon, most notably serving as the central protagonist for 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, one of the most beloved animated films of the past decade. To honor this, Sony and Insomniac Games have revealed the Into the Spider-Verse suit for Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

The suit, which is a pre-order bonus on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of the game, was supervised by some of the animation team of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as the film's production designer Justin K. Thompson reveals in a new gameplay video detailing the suit's unique visual aesthetic. Like the Vintage Comic Book suit from Marvel's Spider-Man, the Into the Spider-Verse suit from Spider-Man: Miles Morales is animated to resemble the unique animation style of the film.

In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Miles is commonly animated on "2s." This is an animation technique used to give the Spider-Man a more rigid look, by holding each of his movements for two frames instead of the standard 12-24 frames-per-second. In the video, Thompson explains that this technique was employed by Insomniac Games to give the Into the Spider-Verse suit the film's direct style, while comic book style pop-up words are also carried over, which the film's team helped integrate into the game's combat sequences visually.

While the Marvel's Spider-Man video game series and Into the Spider-Verse take place in separate universes, this is not the first time Sony has brought the games and film together. An Into the Spider-Verse suit resembling the version from Miles' world from the film is unlockable in Spider-ManPS4's Silver Lining DLC, however it was not animated as similarly to the film as the Spider-Man: Miles Morales suit. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse also features a reference to Spider-Man PS4, as the game's Advance Suit can briefly be seen in Aunt May's basement. All of this could possibly be setting up Into the Spider-Verse's sequel to feature the Peter Parker and Miles Morales from the PlayStation game series.

Recently Insomniac Games revealed that The Prowler, also featured in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, would be featured as a villain in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. In the film, The Prowler is revealed to be the alter ego of Aaron Davis, Miles' uncle. It is unknown if this will also be the character's true identity in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, as Aaron Davis has not yet been featured in the video game series.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales releases exclusively for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 12th 2020.
