In 2018, the gaming world was blessed with Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man. A full AAA first-party PlayStation experience, Marvel's Spider-Man is widely regarded as one of the greatest superhero games ever made, with fluid and responsive web-swinging, satisfying combat, and a compelling, authentic Spidey story. Two years later, Insomniac released Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a smaller-scale spinoff/sequel that focused on Miles Morales and his journey to becoming New York's new Spider-Man. Soon, PC players will finally get to see that journey.

Released back in August of this year, Marvel's Spider-Man came to PC via Steam, and became a smash-hit with over 66,000 concurrent players within its first week. Before release, Sony and Insomniac confirmed that Spider-Man: Miles Morales would also be heading to Steam later in the year, and that launch is nearly here. But before players suit up, there are a few things they may want to know before swinging into Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

How Miles Morales Differs From Spider-Man

In general, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales plays and looks very similar to its 2018 predecessor. Controlling Miles, the game's general gameplay loop has players swing through New York City, taking down thugs, and trying to put a stop to the Tinkerer and Roxxon's plans. The first big difference between the two Spider-Man games is that Miles Morales is much, much shorter, coming in at just 6-8 hours in length. That being said, there are still a ton of side missions and open-world activities for players to engage in, so there's plenty of bang for their buck.

As players progress through the game, they'll unlock more of Miles' unique abilities, some of which provide some gameplay mechanics that are quite different from Marvel's Spider-Man. For instance, Miles has the ability to turn invisible for brief periods, making stealth sequences a lot easier. Miles also has a range of Venom attacks that use his bioelectricity powers to deliver a charge to foes in different ways. However, the trade-off for Miles' new abilities is that he's a little weaker than Peter and has much fewer gadgets at his disposal.

While Spider-Man: Miles Morales takes a lot of visual cues from its predecessor, and New York itself is essentially identical between the two games, Miles Morales has a very distinct look. Being set in the Holiday period, snow covers the streets of New York, and Christmas lights don the road signs and lampposts. With some beautiful lighting and environmental design, Spider-Man: Miles Morales manages to be an incredibly cozy game, even more so than its predecessor.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales' PC-Exclusive Features

Miles Morales falls in Marvel's Spider-Man

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will release on Steam on November 18 2022, and will retail for $49.99. While this price is still a little steep for a port of a game that came out two years ago, this PC port has plenty of shiny new features built-in. The biggest upgrade in the Miles Morales PC port is all the new visual options. Players will now be able to customize a range of different lighting options, including a variety of ray-tracing modes and realistic shadows. This port is also fully optimized for ultra-wide aspect ratios, and even triple monitor setups. NVIDIA's various DLSS upscaling technologies will also work from the get-go in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, allowing for an even more stunning portrayal of New York City in the Winter. Along with a wide range of accessibility options and other graphical sliders, Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PC will also have full DualSense support for those looking to plug their controller into their PC.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available now for PS4 and PS5, with a PC version coming on November 18.
