Spider-Man: Miles Morales, like many other adaptations of the character, features a battle-damaged costume. However, it is only seen in the final moments of the game, meaning that Spider-Man: Miles Morales fans have no way of wearing the costume normally.

Miles Morales gets his iconic costume part way through the game, and it remains intact throughout much of the story. However, in Miles’ final battle with The Tinkerer, the costume gets torn in several places. Overall, the look is memorable, with the entirety of Miles’ chest exposed. Part of his red spider symbol is gone, while his arms are clearly visible. Seeing a suit that has been damaged this severely makes the end of the story and Miles’ struggles more impactful, and now one fan has gotten a closer look at this ruined suit.

The damaged Spider-Man: Miles Morales costume stuck with Redditor Deviled_Eg after they messed around with mission select. After Miles absorbs the reactor in the final mission, his suit is destroyed, though it is repaired once players return to the open world. However, by exiting the mission while Miles is wearing his damaged suit, the Redditor was able to continue using the costume outside of the cutscene. While it looks a bit funny with the undamaged mask, it is a neat glitch, nonetheless.

The Redditor shared two images of the damaged costume, with both showing it in the daytime. Considering that Spider-Man: Miles Morales players only get to see the torn-up costume at nighttime, it is nice to see the outfit more clearly. Apparently, the suit will remain ruined until players change costumes in the menu, so those that want to use the costume can keep it on for as long as they wish. With over 1,400 upvotes, there is clearly some interest in the cut-up suit, so perhaps Insomniac could add a version with a matching mask in the next game.

Overall, the image makes a good case for proper battle damage mechanics in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. While it would be a good compromise for some more battle damaged suit variants to be added for both Miles and Peter, it would be even more fun if all the costumes in the game could be destroyed over time. Seeing Peter and Miles’ costumes being ripped apart as they take more hits could make the gameplay more immersive, and different types of damage for armor or cloth suits could also be included.

While it remains to be seen if a battle damage mechanic will feature in the next Marvel’s Spider-Man game, Deviled_Eg’s discovery joins other Spider-Man: Miles Morales bugs as being more cool than it is problematic. With it being so easy to access the battle-damaged suit, anyone who wants to wear it outside the final mission can do so.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available now on PS4 and PS5.
