On Thursday Sony held its PlayStation Showcase '21 event, showcasing a variety of games coming to PlayStation platforms in 2021 and beyond. Two of the biggest games announced during the show both came from Insomniac Games, developer of Marvel's Spider-Man and the recently released Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Those games are Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Wolverine. After the PlayStation Showcase ended, Insomniac shared some high-quality screen captures from each game's reveal.

Both Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel's Wolverine had two screen captures shared by Insomniac. That's "screen captures" and not "screenshots" as they're taken from cinematic and not gameplay trailers. But they're still all exciting images to peruse, as trying to capture them mid-trailer would result in motion blur. As they are, Insomniac's provided very clear and high-detailed images for fans of Insomniac's Marvel games to comb through for Easter eggs.

The two Marvel's Spider-Man 2 images don't have a ton of background detail, but they do focus on two exciting reveals from the announcement trailer. The first is Spider-Man using a mechanical backpack for four extra "legs," a reference to the Iron Spider exo-suit from the Amazing Spider-Man comics. The second screen captures shows what may be Marvel's Spider-Man 2's villain. It's Venom, the black-suited hybrid of, presumably, Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote. Judging from his smile, Venom's very excited to get started.

The two Wolverine images are much more exciting, upon inspection. The first is simple, but effective. It shows Logan with his claws out, confirming he's the Wolverine fans know from the X-Men comics in all his glory. The second shows Logan sitting at a bar with a variety of rich detail surrounding his figure.

For example, to the left of Wolverine there's a sticker on a refrigerator that reads "1048." This is a reference to the Marvel video game universe that Marvel's Spider-Man is set in, Earth-1048. To Wolverine's right is a license plate reading "HLK 181," referring to Wolverine's first comic appearance in The Incredible Hulk #181. The cash register also shows "19.74" which is the year The Incredible Hulk #181 was first released.

One last key detail from this second Marvel's Wolverine image is the setting. On the blackboard behind the bar is the name The Princess Bar, a location known to be found in the fictional country of Madripoor. Posters to the right and center of Wolverine also indicate this is Madripoor. But most interesting is the jade idol behind the bar that looks quite monstrous. This is a statue for the Madripoorian Mother Goddess Davi Naka, introduced in the Sword Master comic in 2019.

Needless to say, there's a lot left for Insomniac to share about both games. But there's a lot that's already sneakily been shared for fans to consider in the meantime.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 releases in 2023 on PS5. Marvel's Wolverine is currently in development.
