  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2 ends on a more positive note, but tragedy still remains, leaving room for a sequel and unanswered questions.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man games tend to end on a sad note. The first game saw the death of Aunt May for Peter alongside Miles losing his father a bit earlier. Then, in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Miles lost one of his best friends, Phin, after she sacrificed herself to save his life.

Spider-Man 2: How Long to Beat and Get the Platinum Trophy

Here's about how long it will take most people to beat Marvel's Spider-Man 2's main story and unlock the Platinum trophy.

In the grand scheme of things, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ends things on a more positive note, although there is still plenty of tragedy too. There’s a lot to go over as far as where things leave off and what could be picked up in a sequel. Let’s go through the biggest mysteries in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and what they could mean.

Spoiler warning for Marvel's Spider-Man 2

6 Will Peter Retire?

Peter in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Peter has been going hard at being a hero for at least a decade by the time Marvel's Spider-Man 2 ends. He is finally ready to hand over New York City’s safety to Miles because he thinks he can handle it. Also, Peter wants to be a better partner for MJ. Will Peter not be a main playable character in the next game?

There is not a chance that that will happen as something will assuredly pull Peter out of “retirement” such as MJ getting kidnapped by Doc Ock. It would be bold if Insomniac truly did allow him to live the life of a happy married man with maybe even a kid. After all, tragedy seems attracted to Peter Parker.

5 Who Is Cindy Moon?

Fans may have forgotten about this subplot, but early on Rio tells Miles that she is dating another man. Miles is in full support of this, but he misses out on meeting him for a dinner date. The mystery is unveiled with a stinger scene after the credits showcasing Rio’s date showing up at their apartment with his daughter.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2: The 5 Best Suits for Peter (& How to Get Them)

The best suits for Peter in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 celebrate the many different versions of the character and some of his most iconic movie moments.

The man is shown from the front, but he introduces his daughter, Cindy, and all fans get to see is the back of her head. This has to be Cindy Moon who is a Spider-Hero known as Silk in the comics. Will she become Miles’ new partner now that Peter is retired? It seems obvious, but these Insomniac games aren’t afraid to put twists on traditional Spider-Man plot lines.

4 The Multiverse Is Confirmed?

Miguel in Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse

One of the more demanding side quests will task Peter and Miles with grabbing tiny spider robots hidden in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Every robot is based on a version of Spider-Man, including the talking pig Spider-Ham from the comics and movies. Once all the robots are collected, a portal will open up in an alleyway and players will meet Delilah.

She informs the player that Miguel, as in the Spider-Man from the 2099 storyline, will be pleased that these robots are in safe hands again. The portal looks a lot like the ones in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and Miguel was a central character in that. Does that confirm that Insomniac’s games are technically part of the animated universe? More importantly, will the multiverse further open up in the sequel? After al, Insomniac Spider-Man made a cameo in Across the Spider-Verse.

3 Will Gwen Stacey Appear?

Gwen in Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse

While Insomniac has twisted how some of the classic characters have been portrayed in their games, they have been good about including big characters. Venom and Harry were two things missing from the first game and how things end with them will assuredly have ripples in the finale. A big female character that has been missing is Gwen Stacey.

Through most depictions of the character, Gwen seems to die at the hands of the villain while she and Peter are madly in love. Since Peter is in love with MJ already, the sequel could add a younger version of Gwen to play around with Miles instead like in the animated movies. Will Gwen as herself, or Spider-Gwen, make an appearance, or will she be left out of the Insomniac cannon?

2 Will Harry Survive?

Harry in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Speaking of Harry, is he going to survive? The game ends with him being in a critical condition even though Miles zapped him back to life. His father, Norman, makes a call about the G-Serum, which is the substance that eventually turns Norman into The Green Goblin in the comics.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2: The 5 Best Suits for Miles (& How to Get Them)

Many of the best suits for Miles in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 are based on other superheroes or versions of the character from alternate universes.

The Green Goblin, of course, is one of the main villains who kills Gwen Stacey in the comics. That’s how the two characters could be added to the sequel although the idea of Gwen dying yet again seems old hat for Insomniac. Will Harry become The Green Goblin instead, or are there other ways for Harry to come back? Traces of Venom could still be in his body and interacting with another Symbiote, like Carnage who is teased in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, could reawaken his Venom genes.

1 Is Wolverine Sharpening His Claws?

Fans have been patient about this one, but is Insomniac ever going to add non-Spider-Man characters to their games? The Avengers Tower can be seen in the first game and Peter even comments on it. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 even has a note from Doctor Strange and Wong who were away from NYC during Black Cat's robbery of the Sanctum Sanctorum. These could be just fun Easter Eggs for the fans to get excited about, but Insomniac could also be laying the groundwork for something greater.

Marvel: Spider-Man's Best Friends, Ranked

Spider-Man has developed some brilliant friendships with some iconic Marvel characters over the decades.

There is one possibility of a classic Marvel hero appearing in the next Spider-Man game more so than anyone else aka Wolverine. A variant of his costume appears for Miles to wear. He is not a New York City-based hero, unlike more obvious cameos that could occur like Luke Cage or Daredevil. However, Wolverine and Spider-Man do work together quite a bit in the comics. Also, Insomniac is working on a standalone Wolverine game that was announced in 2021. No gameplay has ever been shown, so maybe that will be a 2024 surprise. Will Marvel’s Wolverine indeed be their next game and will that then tie into Marvel’s Spider-Man 3?
