Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 developer, Insomniac Games, has reaffirmed that the upcoming title will be a single-player game. This clarification comes in response to a fan on Twitter, who prompted the question about the title’s gameplay, after a recording of Miles Morales’ voice actor, Nadji Jeter, from a Q&A session in 2022 surfaced online, which seemingly confirmed co-op gameplay.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was revealed during the PlayStation Showcase in 2021, and there has hardly been any information on the game since then. Sony has always been tight-lipped about its big-name games, and that’s exactly what it did with Spider-Man 2 as well, but the voice actor seemingly let slip some details, where they said that the game will feature co-op gameplay. However, Insomniac’s response to a fan on Twitter claims otherwise, which has left the fans wondering what it might actually be.

Following the discovery of Jeter’s recording, Twitter user Sean Lia asked Insomniac whether the game features co-op gameplay or not, to which Insomniac responded, “Nope! It is an epic single-player adventure.” Both the previous titles featured single-player gameplay, but the trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 featured both Peter Parker and Miles Morales going up against Venom, who will possibly be the game’s main antagonist. Considering the trajectory those titles had, Insomniac’s statement may or may not be entirely true as both Spider-Men got their standalone titles, but might both be playable in this one, so players believe it could feature some form of co-op gameplay.

Alternatively, several fans also theorized that by co-op Jeter could’ve meant that players would be able to switch between the two protagonists, or might have specific missions where they could play as both of them. In addition to this, an August 2022 rumor had claimed that Spider-Man 2 will feature co-op gameplay, so clubbing that with the voice actor’s comments, many gamers think it could be true, and that Insomniac is just trying to salvage something here.

While the fan base remains confused for now, it won’t be the case for long as the upcoming PlayStation Showcase scheduled for May 24 is rumored to finally reveal more information about the game, which will possibly answer some of the questions fans have. One of the biggest ones out of those is the identity of Venom, who fans believe will be Harry Osborn as opposed to Eddie Brock because of the secret ending in Marvel’s Spider-Man. Villains like Lizard and Kingpin have also been rumored to be a part of the game, and the existence of the Venom Symbiote could also mean either Peter Parker or Miles Morales could merge with it in the story.
