Highlights

  • Kraven's mission to hunt down and kill powerful supervillains in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 becomes personal for Peter and Miles, as the hunter targets characters with whom they have personal connections.
  • While Kraven's goal is to find the strongest prey and have a noble death at their hands, some of his targets, like Vulture, are odd choices considering their frailty and health conditions.
  • Kraven's confirmed kills in the game include Scorpion, Vulture, Electro, and Shocker, with the deaths of the latter three only implied through evidence found by other characters.

Kraven's story in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is a dark experience for players as they rush to stop the hunter from killing his prey. Over the course of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, it becomes clear that Kraven is out to hunt the strongest supervillains New York City has to offer, but unlike the Wall Crawler, he plans to kill these villains rather than turn them over to the police. In Kraven's quest to hunt New York's most powerful villains, players will discover that one of his victims doesn't align with the hunter's overarching goal.

The mission to prevent Kraven from killing his prey across New York City becomes very personal for Peter and Miles in Spider-Man 2. The hunter targets characters like Black Cat, Tombstone, and the Lizard, who each have a history with Peter, as well as Mr. Negative with whom Miles has a personal connection, and these targets make sense for Kraven to set his sights on, given that they could each potentially pose a challenge for the hunter. However, Kraven targeting a villain like Vulture makes a lot less sense when considering Kraven's greater quest to hunt the city's most powerful prey.

Vulture Doesn't Seem like Prey Worthy of Kraven in Spider-Man 2

As Spider-Man 2 players learn more about the hunter, it becomes clear that Kraven's motivation for hunting these characters across New York City is in an attempt to find the strongest prey he can, one that is worthy of finally ending his life in a similar plot to the Kraven's Last Hunt arc from the Spider-Man comics. While infiltrating the hunters' base, Peter finds evidence that Kraven is dying of cancer and that he wishes to have a noble death at the hands of the most powerful prey he can find. However, from the prey Kraven ends up killing, it's clear that Vulture is an outlier and a strange option for the hunter to target.

Kraven's Confirmed Kills in Spider-Man 2

  • Scorpion
  • Vulture
  • Electro
  • Shocker

The only villain killed by Kraven on screen in Spider-Man 2 is Scorpion, who is killed when Kraven stabs him with his own stinger. While the hunter attempts to kill other prey like Lizard, Tombstone, and even Mr. Negative by throwing him into a death match against Miles, none of these attempts are ever successful. The only other villains that are confirmed to be killed during his hunt are Vulture, Electro, and Shocker, who are never directly shown being killed but only implied to have been killed off-screen through evidence found by Mary Jane during her infiltration of Kraven's lair.

During this infiltration, players will discover Vulture's wings that Kraven has kept as a trophy of his kill, but it's odd that Kraven would seek out Vulture as prey, let alone keep a trophy of his hunt. Adrian Toomes, AKA Vulture, is one of the oldest of Spider-Man's villains and is dying from Cancer due to prolonged exposure to the fuel needed to power his flight suit, making him far too frail of prey for Kraven in his quest to find the strongest quarry. However, it's possible Kraven chose Vulture as a target due to their shared cancer, perhaps wanting to see if he still had any fight left in him.

Ultimately, Kraven gets his wish and dies at the hands of Harry Osborn's Venom after an epic clash with the monstrous symbiote in Times Square. While this is a fitting end for the hunter and his saga, it makes his previous targets, particularly Vulture, look even more unworthy of his time by comparison. These targets may have made more sense if the game had spent more time exploring Kraven's motivations for each victim, even letting players see their deaths occurring on screen.
