Kurt Connors arrives in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and it seems that The Lizard is evolving, and growing ever stronger and smarter. This advanced version of the Spider-Man villain might cause some concern among Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 players, who could be struggling to beat the reptilian threat from It Chose You, a main mission in Insomniac Games’ newest Spider-Man title.

Spider-Man 2: How Long to Beat and Get the Platinum Trophy

Here's about how long it will take most people to beat Marvel's Spider-Man 2's main story and unlock the Platinum trophy.

The Lizard is a great challenge with some pretty sharp teeth and a rather powerful tail, but paired with the black suit, Peter Parker is perhaps far more menacing, and even angrier as the race to save Harry continues. Here’s how to beat The Lizard in Spider-Man 2.

Lizard Phase One

As players progress through the secret Oscorp Lab, Lizard will sneak up on them, and throw Spider-Man into the boss fight arena. To begin, the game will show players a tutorial for the Crush Attacks. These are indicated through the blue circle on Lizard’s mouth, and they are there to show players that they cannot parry these attacks or block them. Players must dodge these blue warning attacks to avoid the Crush.

Lizard has the usual one-two horizontal swipe, in which he will use his left arm, and then his right arm to swipe at Spider-Man or the other way around. Players can either parry these or dodge them to build up Focus or create an opportunity to attack. For this phase, it’s best just to wail on Lizard, as he isn’t at his strongest at this point, and the Black Suit gives Peter an edge.

Spider-Man 2: How to Change Suits

Spider-Man 2 players can't change their suit from the get-go, but here's when the feature gets unlocked.

Lizard can also jump backward to create some distance between him and Spider-Man. If Lizard is at a distance, then he will try and perform a leap attack, where he will slash at the player. It’s best to keep close to Lizard to avoid these attacks.

One move from the Lizard worth noting is when he crouches on all fours and raises his tail. This is a move with a yellow ring around his head, meaning players must parry this move or jump in the air to avoid his 360-degree tail swipe.

Keep in mind that around this boss fight arena, players can find yellow grates on the floor with warning signs. If players are to press L1 + R1 when the Lizard is on top of one of these yellow grates, then steam will burst from the open doors, and cause Lizard to be stunned, opening him for some powerful attacks with the Square button to deal enhanced damage.

Lizard Phase Two

After Lizard’s health bar reaches 0%, it will rise back to 100%, and Lizard will now have leaped onto a nearby wall. This second phase is slightly more challenging than the first, as Lizard has a few new tricks up his sleeve. Lizard can jump onto the wall and perform a fast Crush attack, which players need to be on their feet to dodge, as Lizard will have a quick roar to indicate the attack, before diving to try and tackle Spider-Man.

Whilst Lizard is on the wall, he can use his claws to grab some of the wall and throw the debris at Spider-Man. It’s best to dodge these moves, but players can get him off of the wall and ground him by using R1 to use the Web-Shooters, and then use a Web Strike attack with the Triangle Button to get close and begin a combo with Square to knock him down.

It’s best to make use of Spider-Man’s arsenal here. This means that players should be looking to use their Gadgets and Abilities to wail on Lizard and get his health down to 0% without the risk of losing their own health. However, it might not be wise to use Takedowns, as although the damage is significant, it might not be worth losing the chance to heal, and the progress of the fight.

Lizard Phase Three

After an action set-piece involving chasing Lizard through New York City, players are back in another boss arena in the sewers. Except this time, Lizard is noticeably larger, and Peter Parker’s patience is wearing thin, especially as the Symbiote Suit continues to feed on his anxiety and fuel his rage, providing some great skills for Peter Parker. This is a perfect time to use the Symbiote Surge ability with L3 + R3 to constantly use basic attacks with the Square button. During this mode, players are practically immune to damage, and each punch deals great amounts of damage and keeps Lizard stunned.

However, it’s not just Peter Parker who has learned new tricks with the Symbiote Suit, as The Lizard will have picked up on the fact that the Black Suit is vulnerable to high frequencies, so it will occasionally roar to stun Peter in the suit. To avoid this, try and dodge and zip away from these roars, indicated by the blue circle on Lizard’s mouth showing an incoming and quick Crush attack. Lizard will also string together some combos of his own, like a multitude of slashes and then a tail swipe, or a few swipes with his tail and a few roars on top of that. Just keep in time with the direction of the Spider-Sense and use Spider-Man’s Symbiote Abilities to keep fighting.

On top of this sonic roar that stuns the Symbiote, Lizard also has a few vertical tail slam attacks that players can parry or dodge. As usual, after a parry, it’s best to start spamming a simple combo with the Square Button to chip away at Lizard’s final health bar. Players can also yank open red panels on walls and floors with L1 + R2 for when Lizard walks over them to stun him.

After Lizard’s health reaches 0%, players would have conquered New York City’s very own, and smaller, Godzilla, thus bringing Kurt Connors back, and saying goodbye to the pesky Lizard to progress forward through the main quests.
