Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has gone gold, according to its developer Insomniac Games. The new Spider-Man is among the most eagerly awaited PS5 exclusives of 2023, and this announcement is good news for fans of the franchise.

The original Spider-Man for PS4 was released back in 2018. Due to Spidey’s popularity, as well as the game’s sprawling open world set in New York and intuitive web-swinging mechanics, Spider-Man became a best-seller quickly, surpassing God of War as the fastest-selling first-party game Sony ever made at the time. Now, all eyes are turned to the sequel, which will have Peter Parker and Miles Morales reunited against new threats.

Today, Insomniac Games has revealed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has gone gold with a commemorative video that included a few of the voice actors who worked in the game. Going gold means that the title is fully working and ready for launch. There may still be some updates to the game between now and then, like potential bugs and improving the game’s performance ahead of a possible day one patch, for instance.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be a fairly larger experience than its predecessor. In the first game, players were only able to explore Manhattan Island. However, the sequel will expand in scope, allowing gamers to visit Queens and Brooklyn, too, which will nearly double the size of the original game and offer new vistas. In the newly revealed map for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it’s possible to see that all the iconic areas of the first game, such as the Empire State Building and Central Park, are returning, and there will be plenty more to explore. Fortunately, players will have the ability to fast travel quickly to all places on the map without long loading screens, which will hopefully make it easier for them to move around after they’re done exploring.

Recently, the developers have also confirmed how many suits will be in Spider-Man 2. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will feature over 65 unlockable suits, including classic costumes from the comics, as well as some unique creations made specially for the new game. If Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is anything like its predecessor, unlocking all of these costumes will be quite a quest, as gamers will need to complete missions or special challenges to gain access to them and their unique powers.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launches October 20, exclusively for PS5.
