PlayStation 5 exclusive game Spider-Man 2 will be released on Friday, October 20 with a Venom whose alter-ego isn't Eddie Brock. When Spider-Man 2 was first revealed, it was confirmed that Venom, one of Spider-Man's most iconic villains, would be featured as one of the primary antagonists. But while Venom was featured prominently in the Spider-Man 2 reveal trailer, he didn't make an appearance during the extensive PlayStation Showcase presentation from last month.

The Spider-Man 2 footage at the PlayStation Showcase was focused on Kraven the Hunter, showing Peter Parker and Miles Morales coming into direct conflict with his goons that have invaded New York City. That footage also showed Peter outfitted with the symbiote suit, but it didn't reveal how that happened or how the symbiote will eventually become Venom.

Those questions have yet to be answered, but fans now know that Venom will not be Eddie Brock in Spider-Man 2. Insomniac briefly appeared at Summer Game Fest to show off new art of Kraven the Hunter and Venom, confirming that the Venom in Spider-Man 2 will not be Eddie Brock, but stopping short of who exactly will be Venom in the game. This shocking detail was confirmed alongside the October 20 release date.

When is the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Release Date?

Since Eddie Brock isn't Venom in Spider-Man 2, the question remains who will take on the mantle of Venom in the game. Some fans have theorized that Peter Parker will become Venom, but that doesn't seem likely. After all, the new concept art shows Spider-Man fighting Venom, and that may be too big of a departure from the source material for fans to stomach. There is one other possibility that seems to be the most likely, but discussing it means delving into Marvel's Spider-Man SPOILERS so proceed with caution.

In the world of the Insomniac Spider-Man universe, Harry Osborn is terminally ill. It seems that his father, Norman Osborn, has acquired the symbiote somehow and plans on using it to help cure Harry. Considering th is, Spider-Man 2 definitely seems to be pointing in the direction of Harry Osborn becoming Venom, but Insomniac is refusing to reveal the character's secret identity just yet. It's possible fans will be clued in prior to launch, but it's just as likely that they will have to play through Spider-Man 2 themselves to get their answers.

Spider-Man 2 launches October 20, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
