How to Parry in Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Parrying in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 can be easily done by holding down L1. However, there are different types of parries as well as varying situations in which the defensive skill can come in handy.

For starters, holding down L1 will be more akin to blocking, where attacks from enemies will still connect with either Miles or Peter but with reduced damage. This can be useful in a pinch if there is a need to buy some time for players to catch a breather during intense encounters. However, that is not viable in the long run, nor effective against the tougher enemies that bring a flurry of attacks.

This applies to attacks that see a red, glowing outline before the enemy connects. These are heavy attacks that must be parried to prevent damage to the player and open up a potential window of counterattacking. For a proper parry to occur, players must be patient and wait until the normally yellow glow turns red, and then tap L1 just before the attack hits. This will see Peter push back the enemy with his Spider Arms, while Miles will use some Venom to make some space between him and the assailant.

Learning to master this timing will help tremendously throughout Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and more when facing bosses that can chain these attacks quite relentlessly. This way, players can ensure they will always have the upper hand, even as the pressure mounts and the threats get even more dangerous.
