Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launches in just over a month, and Sony has been slowly revealing new details about the game in the lead-up to its launch.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 received a new trailer at the recent State of Play presentation, as Insomniac Games took this opportunity to showcase its open world, extremely fast character-switching, and some more gameplay elements. The event also gave fans a glimpse at Marvel's Spider-Man 2’s UI, in addition to showcasing a few of the suits available in the game. Now, Insomniac Games has revealed that players will have access to multiple frame rate modes in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, including a performance mode that supports 60 FPS gameplay.

James Stevenson, Director of Community and Marketing at Insomniac Games, has confirmed that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 players will have a choice between 30 FPS, 40 FPS and 60 FPS modes while playing the game. Additionally, all three graphics options will support ray-tracing, with no option to turn off this feature. Gamers should note that the resolution and graphics settings could be different depending upon the graphics mode they choose, and there probably will be a noticeable difference in the overall visuals between the three modes.

Other PS5 games developed by Insomniac Games, such as Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart came with a 60 FPS performance mode that supports ray-tracing, in addition to a 40 FPS mode for users with a capable display. So, it looks like the same trend will continue with Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and fans will be able to play the game in their preferred graphical mode at launch.

Ray-tracing is an extremely demanding feature, and it can have a massive impact on a game’s frame rate, resulting in many PS5 and Xbox Series X games not supporting this feature in their 60 FPS modes. The performance mode in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor did feature ray-tracing at launch, but users experienced a wide variety of issues with its implementation while playing in this mode. The development team ultimately decided to remove ray-tracing from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, giving fans a more stable 60 FPS gameplay experience. So, it’ll be interesting to see if Marvel's Spider-Man 2 can offer a locked 60 FPS experience with ray-tracing enabled when it comes out next month.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 releases on October 20 for PS5.
