A huge update is now live for Spellbreak, bringing Chapter 1: The Spellstorm to the magic-based battle royale. The wait is finally over for this big content drop, as fans are now able to enjoy Spellbreak in a whole new way.

Spellbreak dropped earlier this year to decent reviews, but some of the complaints had to do with a lack of content and an uninspired map. Chapter 1: The Spellstorm attempts to tackle some of those issues head-on. Highlighted by new story elements, The Spellstorm update comes with a chapter pass, map updates, and evolutions to the gameplay.

The magic and wizardrySpellbreak has a rather impressive chapter pass with this update, as players are able to unlock loads of content and gear. 72 quests are also a part of Chapter 1: Spellstorm, giving players a lot to do. The map changes add more density to the world, and more places to explore, which helps some of the areas that seemed rather thin. Meanwhile, the trailer of the new chapter showcases portals that can be used to drop down in new locations on the map, as well as geyser-like energy forces that spring the players up in the air to give them a tactical advantage.

Spellbreak started out rather hot, reaching 5 million players in just three weeks. But some of the hype behind the game has died down, which is understandable. The battle royale and online multiplayer shooter space is rather crowded. Although a lot of success can be found in these areas (see Fortnite, Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, or Overwatch), it is also easy for a game to fall off quickly. The hope is that updates like The Spellstorm will both bring back old players and entice new ones to join. With continual chapters, bringing new gameplay elements, and added content, developer Proletariat, Inc. could give Spellbreak the legs to last a long time.

Spellbreak is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
