A rumor points out that the classic Namco fighting game SoulCalibur may be getting a remaster in the future. SoulCalibur has been a long-standing franchise in the Namco library, which first launched in 1998. While that was the series' first official foray, its actual roots date back to as early as 1995, as its predecessor Soul Edge made waves in the arcade scene. The series is known for its weapon-based fighting that could spiritually be comparable to Tekken, but with enough differences to separate the two titles. Some fans already believe that SoulCalibur deserves a remaster because of how it innovated movement in 3D fighting games. The eight-way run system allowed players to simply move in any direction they choose. This gave the player the freedom to maneuver in any direction and created dynamic situations during each battle. Not only that, but the unique weapon-based gameplay introduced features such as Guard Impact, which worked as a parry of sorts and can shift momentum in the bout.RELATED: SoulCalibur 6 Announces Final Season 2 DLC FighterAccording to journalist Nick "Shpeshal_Nick" Baker's statement during the latest Xbox Era podcast, he noted that there's been a report from one of his sources about the possible remaster of SoulCalibur. While he further reiterated that he's unsure whether the scope is just for the first SoulCalibur or multiple games, he stated that however the remaster turns out, rumors point to it being a part of Xbox Game Pass. He then speculated that since SoulCalibur 6 had been released on Xbox One, if multiple games were being planned, then it's possible that the remasters could include SoulCalibur to SoulCalibur 5.

The older SoulCalibur games had some fun and original modes which have not appeared in any game since. SoulCalibur 3's Chronicles of the Sword was a mode that many players spent time in. In fact, a lot of older features and characters in the earlier games deserve to be remade in today's modern console age. Even the simpler creation modes of yesteryear and the unique story modes could work wonders in the latest game engine.

While the modes could easily make a return, unfortunately, the former games' guest characters might have to be removed. While it might be easier to include Heihachi from Namco's very own Tekken franchise, SoulCalibur 4 guest characters like Star Wars' Yoda and Darth Vader might have to take a back seat if a remaster is on the way. Fans may remember the absence of the comic book character Spawn from SoulCalibur 2 HD Online's release a few years back as an example. In any case, any way Namco chooses to run the rumored remaster, fans of the franchise could rejoice and support the title if it happens.

SoulCalibur 6 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
