A new rumor claims Sony may be developing a pair of wireless earbuds for use with the PS4, projected to release sometime in the next year. Peripherals have long been a popular avenue for the iconic developer to bring new features to its many PlayStation consoles, starting as early as devices like the EyeToy on PS2. Modern platforms have increasingly brought new ways for players to maximize their experience from VR headsets to quality-of-life features like controller enhancements. Sony's newest potential product for the PS5 would give players a comfortable way to immerse themselves in their games.

Wireless earbuds have increasingly become popular as a portable and flexible way for users to listen to their games and music. Products like Apple's AirPods have seen universal popularity for their ease of access and the portable nature of the audio devices. Several gaming companies have even looked at getting in on the wireless earbud craze with companies like Razer developing noise-canceling earbuds. Now, a recent rumor suggests Sony is developing wireless earbuds geared towards gamers on PS5.

A leak to Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson has revealed Sony is reportedly working on a pair of wireless earbuds for the PS5. Codenamed "Project Nomad," the earbuds would sport a battery life of roughly five hours, comparable to Apple's AirPods. The leak claims the new earbuds from Sony are set to release sometime during the 2023 fiscal year, anywhere from April 2023 to March 2024. Sony has not made any official announcements about new audio peripherals set to launch for the PS5.

The wireless earbuds for PS5 would reportedly not be coming alone as Henderson revealed a new headset is also in development from Sony. The headset, referred to as "Voyager," would supposedly function similarly to Sony's pre-existing INZONE headphones, launching at the same time as the earbuds. The newest leaks come after Insider Gaming had previously reported on a new model revision coming for the PS5 featuring a detachable disc drive. The PS5 currently only features two main models available for purchase between the standard version and the "Digital Edition" with no disc drive.

Rumors about the PS5's new earbuds come as peripherals have been a major focus for Sony throughout recent months. Sony launched the first major revision for the PS5's controller, the DualSense Edge, late last month featuring customizable parts and settings. The developer also revealed "Project Leonardo" at the start of the year, a uniquely customizable controller designed for players with disabilities. Wireless earbuds will fit right in with Sony's line of peripherals looking to improve the experience for players on PlayStation consoles.
