Sony's next-gen console, the PS5, is elusive and very difficult for fans to get their hands on due to high demand and ongoing issues with supply. As the console turns 2 this November, gamers are hoping to find some way to obtain the PS5 in time for the holiday season.

The global supply chain issues affecting various different industries have made it very difficult for people to get things that they have ordered on time, if they are able to get them at all. The gaming industry is not immune to this whatsoever as all the big companies have been behind in their supply of consoles, games, and other hardware to meet the demand of customers and fans all over the world.

Amid these issues, though, Sony gives players some hope by saying that they are working to increase PS5 supply in time for the holiday season. During their latest earnings results review, Sony has said that software sales and gameplay engagement are down, and it needs to work on bringing those back up. "Taking this situation into account," Sony explains, "we intend to take action to increase user engagement in the second half of the fiscal year, during which major titles including first party software are scheduled to be released, primarily by increasing the supply of [PS5] hardware and promoting the new PlayStation Plus service."

Gamers are still worried because of the rumors that Sony may increase the PS5's price, but Sony is still not commenting on this and instead, wishes to continue talking about the supply issue. Sony says it expects to meet its prediction of 18 million units sold during the fiscal year, and is seeing positive signs for supply after lockdowns ended in Shanghai, which is a major center for the production of certain components. As a result, Sony thinks that it will be able to increase production and sell many units in time for the holiday season.

Sony continues to release updates for the PS5 console, like the recent upgrade that allows support for 1440p monitors and other such enhancements. Players are excited for these improvements, but many fans are hoping for more improvements in supply so that they can actually get their hands on the console in order to enjoy these features. Sony has made promises to ramp up production already this year, but the supply chain issues continue, making it more difficult to follow through with these promises.

There is still time before the holiday season starts, though, so fans can look forward to hearing more news about whether Sony will actually be increasing PS5 production to meet the growing demands for the console later this year.
