Sony revealed a PS5 digital edition during the PS5 reveal event. The console is a slimmer version of the PS5 console design and features no optical disc drive, meaning that it will only be able to play downloaded games.

One of the biggest surprises of the PS5 reveal event was the PS5 digital edition. The two console versions are comparable to the PS4 Slim and the PS4 Pro, as the big difference is that the PS5 digital edition is missing the optical disc drive "lump" on its right side. This makes the console's design look more symmetrical, but it also means that players will not be able to enjoy games on discs and will have to download everything.

Sony also revealed several PS5 accessories. A HD camera will be available, there will be a charging dock for two DualSense controllers, there's a new Pulse 3D wireless headset, and a media remote. None of these accessories are very surprising but it means that fans will happy to see that they'll be able to get cameras and headsets that look like the PS5 console.

It's unclear if the PS5 digital edition will have the same amount of storage as the biggest PS5 design. Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will offer 825GB of storage space, though that number isn't with the space for the console's operating system taken out of it and players will have much less space to store games.

Sony has also said that PS5 games can't be played from an external hard drive. If the digital edition of the console doesn't come with more storage space, players could find themselves frustrated, having to delete games so that they can fit newer titles in. That was something that many disliked about the PS4 and many had thought that the PS5 would have more storage to deal with that.

However, Sony could soften the blow of a storage trade-off by potentially making the PS5 digital edition cheaper. There have been rumors that the PS5 will be expensive and that Sony is expecting lower sales because of it. The price of the two console versions wasn't confirmed during the PS5 reveal event, but it's likely that the digital edition will be more affordable.
