The buzz around the upcoming PlayStation 5 is increasing and Sony's latest patent will have players very excited. Moves from Sony have already led to plenty of conjecture about the controller for the PS5, yet the latest details would seem like a logical move by the franchise. Of course, a patented idea does not mean that it will feature in the next generation, but many would be happy to see wireless charging on a new console.

The PlayStation franchise is the best-selling home console brand of all time and many will expect the PS5 to continue an impressive legacy. With this expectation comes a lot of interest in the technical specifications of the console, and how it can run games that push boundaries. How the console delivers games and manages fan excitement remains to be seen, but for now many will hope that the patent for wireless charging becomes a reality in the holidays of 2020 when the PS5 releases.

The patent reads "A wireless charging adapter that can snap onto a computer game controller can be inductively coupled to a charging base to wirelessly recharge a battery in the controller." This would mean that the technology isn't completely wireless and there would still be some plugging in and attaching of equipment required. The technology could also have been designed for previous PlayStation controllers or completely separate equipment from Sony. Nevertheless, many will look to the PS5 to push console technology forward and it seems that Sony has plenty of ideas of how to do this.

sony patent ps5 features

There is plenty of speculation about what could make the PlayStation 5 a success and even what could make it an unexpected failure. If the console continues to provide exclusive games that are sought after then it will likely manage to retain its users. Furthermore, if the PS5 can provide technology features that impress, then some players may be swayed by the console. However, there are more practical factors behind consumers buying consoles.

A recent poll showed that price was a deciding factor for many when picking a console and with the PS4 undercutting the price of the Xbox One and being more successful, this may well be the case. There hasn't been too much confirmed about the next PlayStation but players will hope that they can get their hands on exciting new technology, like wireless charging, for a reasonable price. If this is the case, the PS5 will surely be another success for Sony.

The PlayStation 5 is scheduled to release Holiday 2020.
