Magazines in Sons of the Forest could be teasing a future update to the game. If the content of the magazines are to be taken literally, a VR port may be coming to the game sometime down the road. At this point in the development of the early access game, it's not too outlandish to imagine Sons of the Forest coming to VR closer to the game’s final release.

Sons of the Forest may not quite represent the full experience that the development team is aiming for just yet, though it's safe to say that the assets in the game so far are all intentional details. The magazines scattered throughout the game each reveal a tiny bit of information about the lore of Sons of the Forest, somewhat reminiscent of help tips and advertisements of in-game items. While some players have speculated that VR references are indicative of the game’s story, a particular magazine featuring a VR headset could be evidence of future plans for the game’s release on additional platforms.

The magazines in Sons of the Forest can’t be collected like printed emails or some of the books in the game, but these magazines still serve more of a purpose than decorating the floors and furniture throughout the game. They're bound to come up at one point or another for anyone progressing through the story or just exploring Sons of the Forest’s map because the recurring imagery of the magazines is in quite a few places. For players keen enough to note the contents of some of the magazine covers, a majority of the illustrations on the magazines showcase pictures that are highly relevant to the game.

All the magazines in the game generally have images of assets that are in the game in one form or another. Reading the fine print on a particular magazine cover explains the strange nature of some of the substances found around the cave walls, which is revealed to be a lucrative metal that is native to the island. Another magazine is an advertisement for the energy bars in the game that are helpful for maintaining food and sleep levels in Sons of the Forest. However, one of them displays a generic Virtual Reality headset, along with the text, “Is this the future of gaming?” Given how the contents of the magazine covers pertain to the game, the VR magazine cover could have implications for the future development of Sons Of The Forest.

Sons Of The Forest Potential VR Port

In the latest and second round of developer Q&A for Sons Of The Forest, VR and post-launch support were brought up by the community and the developers didn’t quite turn down these possibilities. Endnight Games used this opportunity to remind players of its intention to make the best of Sons Of The Forest in its early access state, leading up to a full launch in the near future. Given that so much of the game’s upcoming content remains unannounced, and the developers are avoiding a direct answer on a VR port, it’s a likely theory. The particular VR magazine cover found in the game may very well be evidence that a VR port is or was in the works.

The survival-horror setting of Sons Of The Forest would make for the perfect experience to port to VR platforms. The simplified controls of the game, along with the realistic graphics, physics, and mechanics are all features that could make the most of immersive VR consoles. VR enthusiasts should keep a close eye on updates from the Sons Of The Forest development team throughout the contemporary support.
