Many notable changes found their way into the Sons of the Forest 1.0 update and full launch, including a method to upgrade weapons. Players will spend their days on the island fighting off aggressive and hostile mutants and cannibals no matter where they go. It is common for cannibal camps to raid players if they are close by and have spent more than three days in the forest. So, players should collect as many powerful weapons as they can find.

Weapons range from simple clubs to advanced firearms. Players must find and craft all their ammo, but this gets harder as time passes. Players can upgrade their weapons to deal more damage to save on ammo, but the process is far from easy and quite risky. Still, it is well worth the trouble, so here's how to upgrade all weapons in Sons of the Forest.

How to Upgrade Weapons in Sons of the Forest

Sons of the Forest 1.0 Solafite Upgrader

To upgrade weapons, players need a Solafite Upgrader, a buildable machine that can be made once they locate the blueprint. The schematic is in a small cave on the southwest side of the golf course, which is marked on the map below.

Players will need the Rebreather to find the blueprint

Solafite Upgrader Cave

Players will find the cave entrance, a hole in the middle of a small rock formation. Climb down the rope to go inside. It will be pitch black, so use a lighter or flashlight to see.

Follow the cave tunnel until you come across a small waterfall leading into a water pool. From the rocks at the bottom of the waterfall, players can pick up a meal pack, energy drink, and air tank.

Equip the Rebreather and dive into the pool to continue. Swim through the underwater cave until you can resurface into a small open area. There's a small hole in the middle of a couple of rocks that players can squeeze through to move into the next area.

At this point, the cave has two different paths. On the left is an entrance blocked by wood planks that players can break using an axe. To the right is another waterfall. Go to the left to find the Solafite Upgrader blueprint.

The Solafite Upgrader blueprint is a short way from the entrance next to a skeleton on the ground. Next, players can continue deeper along the path to pick up an Artifact Piece or backtrack and go to the right to find the Pickaxe.

The machine runs using Solafite, which can be mined from various caves using the Pickaxe. To use the Solafite Upgrader, follow the steps below:

  1. Equip the weapon you want to upgrade
  2. Place it on the machine hanging rack
  3. Input six pieces of Solafite Ore
  4. Click the power button symbol to start the process

Players will know it's working whenever lightning strikes the machine, and it starts to rain. It takes about two and a half minutes to complete a weapon upgrade, but a group of mutants will attack. This includes Puffies, Twins, Fingers, and even Armsy, a giant mutated blob of limbs and fury if players are unlucky.

Sons of the Forest 1.0 Upgraded Katana

It is best to prepare with traps, health consumables, and loaded weapons before completing an upgrade. Once all the Solafite is melted, the weather will clear, and the upgraded weapon will be ready with an additional 30% damage boost. The weapon will be encased in gold so players can track all their upgrades. All weapons, aside from bows and crossbows, can be upgraded.
