The Machete in Sons of the Forest is a fast blade that can be used to defend players from cannibals or to harvest certain resources like leaves and sticks. While it has a short blade, it is sharp, so anything that meets the pointy end will take a lot of damage. It works well against armorless cannibals and mutant babies if they get close enough, especially with its intense speed.
Unlike other items and weapons, players can get the Machete when they land on the island. The first day will be more laid back, so it is wise to go and grab it before the cannibals start getting curious. Depending on the spawn point, it could be a quick few minutes' trip, or a trek across the forest, so this guide outlines where to find the Machete in Sons of the Forest.
Machete Location in Sons of the Forest
When the helicopter first crashes, there are three possible locations where players will have to start their survivalist journey: the north beach, the snowy mountain, or the forest. After recovering from the crash, there will eventually be a pop-up that encourages players to go to their inventory and open the emergency pack, which has a lighter, a Tactical Axe, the Survival Handbook, and a GPS. The GPS has multiple symbols that mark important locations where players will find hidden places to explore, items, and weapons.
The Machete location isn't marked on the GPS, but players can use the GPS to pinpoint where they need to go. The Machete is on the northern beach, east of the beach spawn point and cave entrance marked on the map. Those who spawn at the beach can also grab the Rebreather from the nearby cave before going to the Machete. Players will know they are in the right place when they see an abandoned camp with two tents, a deceased soldier, and inflatable kayaks closer to the shore. The Machete is stuck in one of the kayaks.
After collecting the Machete, players should search the rest of the camp. Multiple storage crates, ammo cases, the Shotgun Rail, and other supplies are near the kayaks and the tents. Using one of the tents to save the game is a good idea, so players won't lose progress and need to re-find the Machete. Additionally, they can throw up a tent using a stick and tarp so that the location will show up on the GPS, and they can return for supplies once they reset after a few in-game days.
To equip the blade, go into the inventory and right-click it. Players can also add it to the backpack for quicker access or attach it to one of the hotkeys. Again, the Machete doesn't have a long reach, so be prepared to get up close and personal if using it to take on the cannibals. If they aim right, they can slice off a cannibal's head with one swipe.
