In Sons of the Forest, players will have to defend themselves from the various cannibals above ground in the terrifying forest and the mutant hordes below in the cave systems. A large arsenal of weapons, found and crafted, is available for them as soon as Day One of survival after crash-landing on the remote island. A not-so-obvious option is the Cross.
Certain variants of cave mutants can be scared away with the Cross, and it will physically burn Demon mutants, although they won't be encountered until later in the game. So, this guide has everything players need to know to find the Cross in Sons of the Forest.
How to Get the Cross in Sons of the Forest
There is only a little storyline gameplay in Sons of the Forest, but from what is seen from old emails, key items, and bodies found throughout the forest, players can piece together a theory on what happened. It seems supernatural or otherworldly forces were at play, and the Cross has several advantages.
The Cross can be picked up from one of the caves deep within the forest almost immediately. Players will start the game at one of three spawn points: the beach, the river, or the mountain. They have an emergency pack with a Tactical Axe, GPS, Survival Handbook, and Lighter. While that is basically everything needed to locate the Cross, they can grab the Flashlight or Pistol for even more preparation since the caves are dark and full of enemies.
Exploring the Cave
The Cross cave is on the southwest side of the island. Whenever close enough, players will see a pulsating green marker on the GPS; the cave is also marked on the GPS south of this marker. In addition, there's a small circular lake with four connecting rivers leading into it that players can also use as a guide. Make sure to have high needs, supplies, and materials to set up a tent for quick saving and energy before entering the cave.
Players will see a small ledge inside the cave over an open, flooded room. It will be almost pitch black, but throwing a few flares can brighten the room. The Cross is towards the very back, near a floodlight, and players will see a shadow of it on the wall where it is standing up.
Be prepared to fight or run because there are several blind mutants throughout the area. They have fantastic hearing abilities, so sneaking around them is unlikely. Additionally, be careful not to use up all ammo or Meds during this encounter because they have a lower spawn rate. Tossing a Grenade or Time Bomb is an effective method and takes down multiple at once.
Players can safely go after the Cross when the mutants are cleared out. To equip it, go into the Inventory and click on it; it takes the place of any held weapons. After players pick it up, they can go back and leave through the entrance or go deeper inside to find the Rope Gun.
