Not all defensive structures in Sons of the Forest are strong enough to protect the base. While some slow down the mutants and cannibals, others fail to remove any real threat. But a spiked wall can change the game -- it can be the unbreakable barrier between the shelter and the wilderness. And, for the good news, this guide teaches how to build one. Here’s how to get basic and advanced spiked walls in Sons of the Forest.
How to Build a Basic Spiked Wall
A basic spiked wall is a Defensive Wall reinforced with sharpened sticks and rocks. To get one, drive a few sticks down to the soil behind a normal log wall and turn them into diagonal spikes by chopping the heads with an axe. Finally, solidify them with rocks.
Here’s the step-by-step process:
- Build a Defensive Wall. Have at least five vertical logs together and chop the tops.
- Place spikes behind the wall. Drive sticks to the ground behind the wall and axe them to get pointy spears. (Do this from behind, so the spikes stick out of the wall on the other side.)
- Reinforce each spike with three rocks. Simply place a bunch of rocks near the shaft.
To have two rows of spikes on a single wall, build a wooden stand behind the wall—have a full log over two short ones—and force the sticks into it. Repeat the chopping and reinforcing process for the second row to have a double-spiked defensive structure.
Spikes will point in the direction that the player is looking while cutting the sticks. To angle them, aim toward the desired direction before axing.
How to Build an Advanced Spiked Wall
An advanced spiked wall is a ramp with spears supported by a wooden staircase. To build one, place sticks all over a ramp that faces away from the base and turn them into spikes. Finally, add a few steps to the other side and strengthen the structure with rocks.
The following is the step-by-step recipe for a spiked ramp:
- Build a ramp foundation. Attach two horizontal logs to two vertical ones using diagonal pieces of wood.
- Cover the ramp. Chop down logs and shield the front side to look like a roof.
- Pierce sticks into the ramp. Have at least three rows of sticks on the covered side.
- Create angled spikes. Get behind the rods and chop them down in different directions.
- Build a staircase behind the ramp. (Place chopped logs on diagonally shoved ones.)
- Fill the open corners with firewood. Have a few barriers in weak points.
- Add rocks to coagulate the structure. Three rocks per spike are ideal.
Players might not be able to drill sticks into ramps or logs. In that case, they must first place one on the ground—near the structure—and then drag the snap point (the white cursor) onto the ramp or log.
