The binoculars were added to Sons of the Forest as a part of the March 9th update alongside the Hang Glider. They’re a piece of utility equipment that allows for magnifying faraway objects and scouting the area. But many players are confused about where to look for them because (unfortunately) they’re not automatically added to their inventories. If that’s the case, use this guide to get the binoculars without hassle in Sons of the Forest.

Where to Find the Binoculars in Sons of the Forest?

To get the binoculars, head to the northwest beach and find them on the abandoned red canoe. The pair is located to the left of the north Rebreather Cave and the right of the Hanging Skeletons. (Players need no additional item to retrieve the binoculars.)

How to Equip Binoculars

Using binoculars is straightforward. Equip them from the inventory and hold the trigger button (left-click on the mouse or R2/RT on the controller). Players can zoom in and look around as long as they hold the button.

Equipping the binoculars is similar to masks in Sons of the Forest. There’s no way to equip/unequip them with a single button. And players must hold or release a specific key for that.

The binoculars do not come with adjustable zoom. Basically, all they do is zoom in, and there’s no zoom-out function. It’s also not possible to mark enemies, interest points, or loot objects with this tool.

How to Set Hotkeys for Binoculars

To set a quick-access button, open the inventory, hover the mouse over the binoculars, and press one of the numbers (1 to 0) on the keyboard. This will assign the number to this particular piece of equipment, making it easier to manage and faster to equip.

Of course, hotkeys don’t affect the binoculars’ function. In other words, players will still need to hold the trigger button to look through them.

To unassign the binoculars’ hotkey button, assign that specific number to another weapon or utility item.

Are the Binoculars Worth It?

Since getting the binoculars in Sons of the Forest requires no extra effort, it’s worth it to have them in the inventory. Unlike most weapons and exotic tools, getting binoculars is easy work. And they add the ability to scout faraway areas. Still, having a pair of binoculars is not crucial to surviving the campaign.

Sons of the Forest is available for PC.
