This includes having food, drinks, medicine, and critical items and equipment needed to progress inside the caves. Players can experience the island in new ways as they try to survive against enemies and find a way back home. Several key items, including the Ancient Armor, formerly known as the Gold Armor, have been moved. So, this article has been updated to reflect the Ancient Armor's new location in Sons of the Forest and explains how to upgrade it.
Preparing to Get the Ancient Armor
Players should gather some items before descending into the cave where the Ancient Armor sits in Sons of the Forest. Getting the Rebreather is a necessity as much of the cave is flooded. The Rebreather is in a much smaller cave system near the north beach spawn point. The cave is marked on the GPS, and players will know they are in the right place when they see the yellow barrels lying around the entrance.
While the Rebreather is technically the only needed item, it is wise to get the Flashlight since the caves are notoriously dark. The Flashlight is deeper in the forest near the snowy mountain. It is found on a deceased soldier holding a GPS Locator, so it also appears on the map as a purple marker. The Flashlight requires batteries to be picked up at most campsites and loot crates around the forest.
Lastly, players must stock up on resources such as meat, energy drinks, health consumables, crafted armor, and ammo to survive the harsh conditions. Powerful ranged weapons like the Shotgun or the Revolver will make the journey less risky, but make sure to have plenty of ammo.
Ancient Armor Location in Sons of the Forest
The Ancient Armor is inside a cave near the southwest side of the mountain next to a medium-sized lake. As players approach the entrance, they will see two dead cultists in white robes, which gives some clues to the storyline in Sons of the Forest.
The cave entrance is boarded with wood planks that can be knocked down using any weapon. Inside the cave is a pool of water with Solafite deposits and life jackets, and players must use the Rebreather almost immediately to continue moving forward. There are a few air tanks near the bank if running low. Luckily, the path is straightforward, so after diving, players can swim along the tunnel until they resurface in a new area.
Mutants are waiting inside the large cave after exiting the water. Sounds draw them in, so using the Crossbow or a Bow and Arrow is an excellent way to take them out stealthily. Alternatively, players can book it and run past them straight forward to a downward slope next to a yellow cave drawing. After sliding down, players land inside another pool of water. Then, swim until the path is no longer flooded. Several dead cultists are inside the next area with valuable loot around them.
Sons of the Forest: How to Get Creepy Armor
Creepy Armor is durable armor players can use to raise their defense in Sons of the Forest, so here's how to get some.
On the left side of the cave, players will find a path with several skeletons and wooden planks on the ground. This leads to another open room with a gold light towards the back and a small tunnel illuminated by red directly to their right.
Go down the red tunnel and keep moving forward toward another small light. The ceiling will get lower, so players must crouch to fit through. Eventually, players will see a short hallway with gold grates on the right wall. Move past this into a rocky area. Be wary because this cave section has Demon mutants, which can be fought off using the Cross.
Move deeper into the room until there is a large water pool with a waterfall in the center of it and more gold grates along the walls. Go past the waterfall towards the back of the area. Players will see a couple of cultists leaning against a rock illuminated by light on their left and a hallway lined with Solafite Ore. Make sure to pick up the ammo next to the cultists.
Gold deposits on the walls will signify that players are going in the right direction. Go deeper into the cave until you see an entrance blocked by wooden planks. Break them using an axe, and there's a hallway with crosses hanging from the ceiling and a rope leading downwards at the end of it.
Take the rope down and follow the tunnel with more gold grates on either side. It leads to a fork in the road, and players should go to the right. The path will be flooded, so equip the Rebreather and swim through.
Swim until forced to dive into a tight underwater tunnel that takes players deeper underground. After resurfacing, mutants will be waiting, so watch out for them. Then, go along the cave, towards the left, and around a small corner. Players will see more Solafite Ore, and to the right of the Ore is a small opening with a body wearing a space suit. Go towards the electricity going haywire, and there will be a large room with a broken-down spacecraft surrounded by dead astronauts.
Find the back of the spaceship, where the door is boarded up. The Ancient Armor and an Artifact Piece are at the front of the ship.
How to Exit the Ancient Armor Cave
Now that players have the Gold Armor, they must still escape the cave. Exit the spaceship and find the hill sloping upwards to the top of the room behind it. There's a rope at the top that takes players upwards.
Climb the rope, and there will be another rope at the top that continues upward. At the top, there's a path to the left and one to the right. Take the path to the left and follow the wooden planks on the ground until there's another rope. After climbing all three ropes, the cave extends into a short hallway with a waterhole.
Dive into the water and keep swimming until the path is no longer flooded. There will be a hall with mutants and more gold architecture that leads to another rope. The tunnel at the top of the rope leads toward another rope going down this time and immediately transitions to another slope that players will slide down. After landing in the water, push straight through the cave until there is an open room with more Demon mutants.
Sons of the Forest: How to Fish
Fish are a great source of food and energy in Sons of the Forest, so here's how to catch them.
Go to the back of this room and follow the wooden planks on the left side of the area, leading up another path with a boarded entrance. Follow the tunnel, and you will find another piece of artifact in the following area. Go deeper into the cave, and it will open up to a golden hallway.
Break the boards at the end of the hallway, and on the other side of the golden is an open cave area with more blocked doorways. Move straight, busting planks as needed until a small illuminated path on the left side of the room takes players to a small waterhole. This waterhole leads to the cave exit.
What to Do With Ancient Armor
This section contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.The Ancient Armor is ineffective against most cannibals and mutants but is designed to fight Demon mutants. Players need it to take on the boss Demon mutant inside the Hell Cave.
Additionally, players must upgrade the Ancient Armor to trigger the end-game sequence and escape the island. The Ancient Armor Upgrader blueprint can be found in the Luxury Bunker next to the entrance to the Hell Cave. The following materials are needed to build it:
- Four Wire
- Four Gold Cart Batteries
- One Skull
- 33 Bones
- 25 Stones
Once the Armor Upgrader is built, players can place the Ancient Armor inside with 12 pieces of Solafite Ore. Then, click the power button to start the upgrade process. It will begin to rain, and lightning will strike the Upgrader. This triggers a mutant attack, so be prepared to fight. The upgraded Ancient Armor can unlock the Hell Cave entrance and start the story's final chapter.
